The England region

Located in North Dorset on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, the Studio Retreat is ideally located for great days out to Sherborne Castle, Wardour Castle, Old Sarum Castle, Stourhead Gardens, Stonehenge and much more.
The coast is a 50-60 min drive away with the fabulous beaches of the World Heritage Coast, such as Studland Bay, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Chesil Beach. Salisbury with its exquisite cathedral is 35 minutes drive, and historic Bath, featuring the Roman Baths for those who want to explore the history of the town and Thermae Bath Spa for those who want to relax and unwind in Britain's only thermal water spa.

West Country

Shaftesbury, in North Dorset on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, is one of the oldest and highest towns in England and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful Dorset countryside. The town has fine historical buildings and, of course, the famous Gold Hill, known nationwide (and beyond) for the 1973 Hovis Bread advertisement by the director Ridley Scott.
The Studio is only a 5 minute drive east of Shaftesbury, or a 35 minute walk on country lanes through beautiful ancient woodland. Most visitors come here by car, but it is possible to stay here and get around by foot or bicycle (just remember that this is quite a hilly area). If your preferred form of transport is by train, we'll be happy to collect you from either Tisbury or Gillingham Station at a small additional charge.

“Perfect hideaway for two”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2014

The Coppice Studio was just perfect for us, great location, peacefully tucked away in a hamlet, but close to Shaftesbury and other amenities. The Studio is really well equipped, comfortable, light and airy. A lot of thought has been given to what you will need to make your stay lovely. Waking up and wandering out into the garden with a cup of tea was a lovely start to the day, and the welcome pack of lovely things for breakfast was a really nice touch. I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay for a cosy relaxing break.

“A lovely studio in peaceful and beautiful surroundings - weekend perfect break”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2013

We stayed for three nights at the end of June and had a fantastic time. Can't recommend the place highly enough - not only was the studio itself well equipped, clean and comfortable but Gabriela and Niel were really welcoming hosts. Aside from a few teething problems with the electrics, which our hosts were quick to iron out, our stay was perfect. The kitchen has everything you need and want and the garden and decking were great to sit out in during the warmer and drier evenings. The cat and the dogs were a welcome addition to our BBQs (particularly as my partner is a real animal lover) and the surrounding area is lovely. The walk up to Shaftesbury is not too long and the forest you walk through is great and I would highly recommend both Old Wardour Castle and Stourhead. Whether you want to walk or lounge, the place is brilliant. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

“Perfect retreat”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2012

I stayed 3 nights at the Coppice retreat and we had an absolutely lovely stay. The studio is gorgeous and clean, the bed is wondefully comfy and the surroundings are simply perfect. The grounds are utterly tranquil and just devine! I travelled with my 6 year old son and we were made extremely welcome by the friendly hosts. The coppice is situated ideally for Dorset beaches and many attractions but is far enough away from things to feel, well, away from it all! We visited both Bath and Longleat while we were there but lots of other places are well within reach. It is perfect for couples or friends staying together or like me, a mum and a child. My son loved all the nature and wildlife to be found in the area and there are lots of nice walks to be had. Very quiet. In all, I we both wished we could stay there forever!
