Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

The Peak District & Derbyshire straddles the border between the northern highland parts of Britain and the southern lowland counties. This is marked in a variety of ways, and is chiefly seen in the landscape features.
The Peak District & Derbyshire straddles the border between the northern highland parts of Britain and the southern lowland counties. It is divided into the Dark and White Peak. The Dark Peak is characterised by high gritstone moorland which sits in an arc across the top of the limestone. It is a wild and barren landscape punctuated by weathered tors towering over heather moorland - an area which changes dramatically with local weather and light conditions, but one which has a powerful, stark beauty. Within the Peak District are beautiful towns and villages steeped in history and oozing with charm and character.

High Bradfield

High Bradfield is centred around the beautiful church of St Nicholas, a Grade 1 Listed Building thought to date from the 12th Century, and Bailey Hill believed to have been the site of a Norman motte-and bailey castle with breath taking views of the surrounding countryside up Bradfield Dale towards Derwent Edge and the village of Low Bradfield just half a mile down the road. Low Bradfield is home to the village cricket and recreation ground – the Ibbotson Memorial Field which draws visitors from many miles around for picnics and family visits to watch the cricket bowls and tennis. Bradfield today is a thriving community offering a range of amenities including a Post Office with shop and cafe, village hall, deli and café, and a public house. This region is dominated by a magnificent array of reservoirs and dams. Damflask reservoir lies downstream of the village and upstream there are Agden, Strines and Dale Dike reservoirs.

For those seeking a little city life then the city of Sheffield is only 20 minutes away providing easy access to museums, galleries and theatres, sports and leisure facilities, restaurants, international cultural events and attractions for people of any age on any budget.

“Homely Hawk Cottage”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2016

We enjoyed our stay in Hawk Cottage very much, it's very comfortable and homely, we immediately felt at home the moment we arrived. Sara the owner kindly provided a welcome pack including home baked bread and fresh eggs from her chickens, which was most appreciated. The cottage is well equipped, and there are various magazines, books and information on places to visit. The cottage is set in beautiful countryside yet only seven miles from Sheffield. We would have no hesitation in staying here again.
