Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

The Peak District & Derbyshire straddles the border between the northern highland parts of Britain and the southern lowland counties. This is marked in a variety of ways, and is chiefly seen in the landscape features.
The Peak District & Derbyshire straddles the border between the northern highland parts of Britain and the southern lowland counties. It is divided into the Dark and White Peak. The Dark Peak is characterised by high gritstone moorland which sits in an arc across the top of the limestone. It is a wild and barren landscape punctuated by weathered tors towering over heather moorland - an area which changes dramatically with local weather and light conditions, but one which has a powerful, stark beauty. Within the Peak District are beautiful towns and villages steeped in history and oozing with charm and character.

High Bradfield

High Bradfield is centred around the beautiful church of St Nicholas, a Grade 1 Listed Building thought to date from the 12th Century, and Bailey Hill believed to have been the site of a Norman motte-and bailey castle with breath taking views of the surrounding countryside up Bradfield Dale towards Derwent Edge and the village of Low Bradfield just half a mile down the road. Low Bradfield is home to the village cricket and recreation ground – the Ibbotson Memorial Field which draws visitors from many miles around for picnics and family visits to watch the cricket bowls and tennis. Bradfield today is a thriving community offering a range of amenities including a Post Office with shop and cafe, village hall, deli and café, and a public house. This region is dominated by a magnificent array of reservoirs and dams. Damflask reservoir lies downstream of the village and upstream there are Agden, Strines and Dale Dike reservoirs.

For those seeking a little city life then the city of Sheffield is only 20 minutes away providing easy access to museums, galleries and theatres, sports and leisure facilities, restaurants, international cultural events and attractions for people of any age on any budget.

“Peaceful stay in the beautiful countryside”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2017

A perfectly situated cottage located on a farm on the border of the Peak District with breathtaking countryside views and just 15/20 min drive from Sheffield centre. Well equipped, cosy and warm. Very comfy beds, clean with good quality furniture. Friendly owners who were there if you needed anything and were very hospitable. My daughter loved chasing the chickens, the dog and playing on the trampoline with the owners children. We really enjoyed the fresh hens eggs which made the best omlettes we've ever tasted, local jams and home made bread on arrival. There's plenty of places to eat nearby, some great walks and its an ideal place for cyclists to stay too. We will miss the peace and quiet and the wonderful countryside, we wish we could stay longer. I would highly recommend this place.

“Warm cosy homely cottage in beautiful location”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2017

Our stay was between Christmas and New Year chosen as a base to visit our daughter and family in Stannington following the birth of new grandson early in December. Cottage well equipped, very cosy with Christmas decorations giving a homely feel with lovely local welcome pack and new made bread on arrival. Our Border Terrier also enjoyed his stay as location gave access to lots of local walks in the valleys, gorges and around the reservoirs. Hope to visit again.

“Home from home”

Reviewed 13 Dec 2016

Myself and my husband stayed in Curlew cottage for 4 nights and had a wonderfully relaxing time. The cottage is very well equipped and maintained to a very high standard. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet getaway. The local pubs serve great food and there are plenty of walks around the area which are all very well signposted. As other reviewers have said, the owners Sara and Joe are very friendly and have done a fantastic job with this cottage. We really appreciated the many personal touches that made such an difference to our stay, such as the Welcome pack containing freshly baked bread, local beer, eggs, fresh milk and butter and the lovely Xmas garland with lights above the fireplace. We will definitely be staying here again in the future.
