An Istanbul holiday apartment best suited to larger parties, with its open-plan design. It has three double bedrooms, two very large luxury and stylish doubles, and a smaller double at the back of the apartment. This impressive grand interior spread across 90m2, also has breath taking views of nearby mountains, glorious sunsets, and the local surroundings of lush, green gardens.
The apartment has been sympathetically designed to enhance the ornate ottoman wooden craftsmanship found in all the 15ft ceilings. The bathroom has been finished with traditional tiles from floor to ceiling giving an overwhelming feeling of Turkish opulence. The rest of the apartment is decorated in light, cool colours to keep temperatures tempered despite the outside heat, and boasts more than enough room for the kids to play whilst you enjoy some much needed relaxation. Outside at the rear of the mansion is a stunning mature and private garden with huge trees offering well needed shade from the midday sun. A stunning mix of flora and fauna coupled with an outside dining table and chairs, sun loungers and BBQ makes this garden an idyllic retreat for any family.

Only a 45 minute boat ride away from Istanbul, the rest of the Princes Islands, and in particular the popular busy tourist island of Buyukada, this garden holiday apartment is the ultimate city Island adventure. And being one of our more popular Istanbul holiday apartments, this one gets booked up pretty quickly, so be sure to contact us today to make your reservations for 2015.

With no traffic on Heybeliada, the pace of life feels much more relaxed. A ride in a phaeton, which in the wonderful Turkish phonetic spelling is rendered as 'fayton', is an absolute must. Whether you are touring or simply getting from A to B , this is sure to be a highlight of your holiday. Even a trip to the supermarket becomes an adventure!

Island hopping on the ferries which ply the Princes' Islands is another must-do. Take a seat on the outside deck and settle with a glass of strong Turkish tea and a sesame-covered bread ring, known as 'simit' to admire the views and soak up the atmosphere. Transport between the Princes' Islands is good with an average journey time of around ten/fifteen minutes.

Hiring a bike is a great way to see the Islands. As there are no cars or motorised transport, cycling is understandably popular, and no traffic means it's very safe. Take the surfaced road, which runs right around Heybeliada or go off piste on one of the dirt tracks, leading through the forests. Children's bikes are available from the hire shops too.

The Karamanyan, which combines original 19th century features and modern design, offers the ideal setting for affordable holiday rentals in Istanbul. It should come as little surprise that the locals from Istanbul have been keeping The Princes' Islands as their own closely guarded secret. Make Heybeliada the base for your next Turkish holiday, and you'll be wanting to keep the place all to yourself, too.

Location description from owner

The Princes' Islands region

The Island is only 45 minutes by ferry from the historic sites of Istanbul. The Princes' Islands offer a choice of relaxing Turkish beach clubs so you really can have it all - a holiday combining history and culture with sea, sun sand and relaxation.

The sea is clean and rich with sea life. You can often see pods of dolphins from the ferry as you travel across between the Islands and the Mainland.

It's much quieter and relaxed around the Islands, only the ferries dock and the port is on the other side from the Beach Clubs and Beaches (on Heybeliada). There is a small marina for the yachts in the Beach Club area but its never busy and only adds to the beautiful setting.

Heybeliada

Connecting the Middle East with Europe, Istanbul's important sites include Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar.

However, 'The Princes Islands' are a little know tourist attraction even to the Turks living in Istanbul. The main reason for this being that the islands were initialy inhabited by a wave of Greek and Armenian Bankers who built Holiday mansions there at around the turn of the 19th Century. This made for a truly odd paradox, these tiny little Islands have almost no Islamic influence and so its quite out of place in Turkey and so close to Istanbul. It also means that to this day Many Turks still won't embrace these Islands because of their History and this is what makes them such a remarkeable secret and unspoilt gem in the crown of Istanbul's tourist destinations! I have been lucky enough to travel the world, but when i got here, by chance i might add, i stopped and said, 'I wana buy a Mansion'! In fact now that i remember, It wasn't the Turks that i was working with at the time that told me about 'The Princes Islands', It was an Arab that i had met out there from Dubai, he said you have a weekend here, go to the Islands, 'It's another world'.

Tips:

Visit the Monastery on the hilltop opposite the mansion. Visit Buyukada (the biggest island which has even more beautiful mansions, but many tourists and day trippers). Istanbul itself is built across 7 mountains on two continents and is the only city in the world which has a sea running through the middle of it! It's an enormous sprawling city with attractions such as the giant mosques in Sultanhamet creating a stunning and unmistakable skyline and rooftop bars and restaurants of Taksim, Beyoglu and Tunel which are packed with good natured drinkers and dinners every night! This is a fantastic city with a dramatic clash of cultures and history prevelant at every corner. Take a boat trip up the Bosphorus, or a day trip to Ortakoy which is a lovely neighbourhood by the huge suspension bridge.

The Princess Islands are a complete contrast to the hustle and bustle of Istanbul, so enjoy a unique experience of culture and relaxation.

We stayed in the garden flat and loved it. The flat is in an old wooden house and has a very 19th century feel - high wooden ceilings and big spacious rooms with wooden floors - but has been decorated in a modern style. There is plenty of IKEA stuff but it has been tastefully done. At the back is a decked area with lime trees, battered old cane armchairs and a table. The caretaker very kindly helped us with barbecues and we ate out there several evening - watched by the local cats. The only possible gripe was that the kitchen could have been a bit better equipped. Overall it was great. The Island itself is touristy enough for there to be restaurants along the sea front but it is otherwise quite quiet. Perhaps the only downside is that there are no public beaches and you do need to pay to go to a beach club. We tried some of the cheaper ones but they were a bit grotty - it was worth paying for the posh beach clubs where handsome young men in uniforms bring tea or beers to your sun lounger.
