The accommodation is arranged with a normal sized double bed upstairs in the main en suite bedroom,2 antique French "small doubles" (4 ft beds)--(which can each accommodate a couple "snugly"!!) together in the second bedroom ,and 1 set of bunk beds (sleeping 2 children in 2 singles "up and down") and a toddler bed (sleeping smaller child in the third bedroom.

Should it be needed, there is a sofa bed on mezzanine which can open out to a small double. There is a "day bed" ,which is single,in the lounge and a further sofa bed that opens to a small double bed in the games room .

Fressin is a small village set between the two market towns of Hesdin and Fruges (both 10 mins drive and with all amenities) containing its own 15th century castle ruins, restaurant, wine merchant and football pitch (opposite the barn) and is served by a regular bagette/ patisserie van and grocery van.

Les Sept Vallees or The Seven Valleys area is named after the seven rivers that pass through the region and is a wonderful combination of gently rolling hills and open countryside, ideally suited for walking, cycling (miles of dedicated cycle paths including the Baie de Somme--a beautiful, flat, off road cycle path ideal for children) and relaxing.

Please note that whilst our barn could accommodate a maximum of 9 and a baby/toddler this would mean using sofa beds or the small doubles as doubles, and the day bed as single, and it is probably more comfortably regarded as sleeping less--6 or less ideally

Further details

Please be aware with small children that this is a traditional barn and there is a drop between the dining room and lounge ( covered by mesh) 3 steps, and a step between the kitchen and dining room.

“Fabulous property, fabulous location, fabulous holiday.”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2015

This is a lovely typical French property just over 1 hour from Calais, so it is in easy reach of the port. Lovely area: Hesdin is a lovely little town to visit with some really nice restaurants to choose from, Becke is a nice coastal town with gorgeous sandy beaches. We can recommend Narcaca sealife centre, just over an hour away.

We are really pleased that you enjoyed your time at the barn and were able to also enjoy the wonderful beaches and attractions. It is so pleasing to Rachel and I to know that others appreciate the beauty but simplicity of the barn and the way of life that this part of rural France offers. Thank you once again and we look forward to welcoming you back soon

“Amazing”

Reviewed 29 May 2015

La Petite Barn is a beautiful renovated barn with first class amenities. It's not too far from Hesdin which is a lovely town with many fine restaurants. We spent 4 nights at the barn and each day was completely different from visiting the WW1 battlefields, Paris and the seaside town of La Touquet. This just emphasises how well located and accessible the barn is and is only just over a 1 hours drive from Calais. Definitely recommend staying here.

Thank you so much for your kind comments and wonderful review Rachel and I are so glad you were able to enjoy the area surrounding the barn, which is indeed a treasure trove of peaceful countryside, but with access to some lovely beaches, thought provoking battlefield sites, and larger towns such as Arras and Amiens--or even as you found---Paris--for the more adventurous! It is also lovely to come back to the tranquility of the barn and we trust you are all that little bit more "rested" now Thank you once again Paul & rachel

Thank you for your lovely comments It is a privaledge to share the barn with people who appreciate the space and amenities as well as the tranquility. We are so glad you enjoyed the wonderful Golf Courses especially Nampont St Martin Thank you also for your advice about the "wine fairs" locally in October...we trust you enjoy your purchases!! We look forward to welcoming you in the future Regards Paul & Rachel

“Beautiful property in rural location”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2014

We chose La Petite Barn from TA reviews and close proximity to Calais as our time was limited to four days. It is only just over an hour from Calais and there is lots to do within an hour's drive - we visited Amiens, Montreuil, Vimy Ridge, St Valerie sur Mer and the nearby towns and villages. The area is perfect for walking and cycling and is very peaceful. The gite itself is beautifully renovated with lots of character. We loved the master suite and the dining room in particular. We had a few minor issues with cleaning and technology but the owners are very friendly and helpful and were apologetic and generous in recompensing us for the cleaning, which had not been done, and trying to fix the broken X Box. These issues have now been resolved and if all is now in order it is perfect for children/teens to relax in the barn whilst the adults enjoy the peace without TV in the lounge and very well equipped kitchen - we took full advantage of the wine cooler! We would recommend on the basis of the beauty and character of the property, its location (although it's a good 20 minute car trip to get croissants in the morning and we never did find the van!) and the friendly but unobtrusive owners. We loved the folder of photographs about the renovation - what a project! if you want pristine cleanliness and modern then possibly this is not for you, but if you love French culture, history and quirky character, you won't be disappointed.

Rachel and I are really pleased that you were able to enjoy the peacefulness and tranquillity of the barn.Thank you for your patience with the technical issues of our Xbox breaking down (now replaced) and with the communication issue such that the barn was not prepared when you arrived (entirely down to my error in not telling Matthew as we were away at the time of reservation and I forgot!!--1st and hopefully last time ever in 3 years) It was great to be able to help resolve these issues quickly whilst we were also over in France and we look forward to welcoming you all back again.

“Lovely , spacious, welcoming accommodation”

Reviewed 1 May 2014

We loved this spacious and brilliantly situated house. It was in a rural setting, but was close enough to all the cultural attractions, the forest and also the beach. We will come back!

Thank you so much for such positive comments It is lovely to enjoy the tranquillity of the rural setting and yet have access to town and other facilities Rachel and I look forward to welcoming you back soon!

“Superb house and garden for all the family”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2013

We had beautiful weather and were able to make the most of the lovely garden and using the Bar-B-Que. Our children loved the games room. The house is very well equipped and we loved the decor. It is a short drive to the lovely restaurant "La Garenne". We loved the Thursday market at Hesdin especially the Haribo sweet stall. We went to the beautiful sandy beach at Berk sur mer (40 mins drive) and the town of Montreuil. For anyone taking a dog there was a vet at Fruges who spoke English. Overall, a fantastic stay at La Petite Barn.

Thank you for your wonderful comments---it is so lovely to know that others are enjoying the barn as much as we do...and fantastic that you had such wonderful weather to enjoy some of the beautiful surroundings and attractions We look forward to welcoming you back and can offer a 10% discount on your future bookings Regards Paul & Rachel

“Relaxing and well equipped, a lovely place to stay!”

Reviewed 9 Mar 2013

We stayed at La Petite Barn in February 2013. The barn was a lovely place to relax, read and enjoy a glass of wine. The children loved the table football and the table tennis. It snowed the day after we arrived and stayed on the ground all week but the barn was very cosy with the wood burner and the heating. We visited Le Touquet, Agincourt and Montreuil. A fantastic break.

Rachel and I are really pleased you all enjoyed the cosiness of the barn and the fire....especially when it was snowing outside and that the whole family were able to relax and have time together We look forward to welcoming you back in the future Kind regards Paul & rachel

“Beautiful, peaceful retreat”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2012

We spent a week with our 17 & 10 year old children at La Petite Barn for half-term. We were very lucky to have temperatures in the low 70's to begin with so it was a great delight to be able to sit outside with a glass of wine whilst the children ran around chasing the large frisbe. The barn has been beautifully renovated and once we had got used to the clicking of the mouse deterrents was great to be in. It was lovely to have the log burner for the end of the week when the temperature dropped. I can highly recommend the barn for a great place to stay even with much younger children as I noticed stair gates in the cupboard. Plenty of places to visit and great places to eat, including the restaurant at Aigincourt.

So glad you had a relaxing time. Please remember we offer a 10% reduction to returning guests, and you are welcome to turn off the mouse clicks when you are there.

“Comfortable, modern barn conversion”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2012

We booked direct with Paul & Rachel which was easy. We were met at the property (good directions) by Matthew who speaks good English, he showed us round and explained everything we needed to know. The property is finished to high standard and has pretty much much everything you need, perhaps with the exception of wifi and only has a small freezer, though this is possibly just us! The barn is well situated for exploring Northern France and the battlefields of WW1 and various WW11 sites. Hesdin is not far away which has a good supply of restaurants and supermarket. The beaches of Le Touquet are within easy reach also. Overall we enjoyed our four nights at La Petite Barn and will hopefully stay again.

Thank you for the review, so glad you enjoyed your time. We are looking into getting wifi, but trying to understand best way to do this in France! please remember we offer a 10% discount to returning customers

“It certainly has the wow factor”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2012

This was a great little find, discovered after a fair bit of research into holiday rentals in France. There were 4 adults and 2 children in our party (16 and 9 months old). We booked direct with the owners, although the cottage is also advertised on other holiday cottage website(s). Communications could have been a little slicker, but I'm just über organised so have high expectations. Minor grumble over, the cottage is absolutely lovely - "contemporary rustic" as my wife likes to say. The journey is short from Calais, taking about an hour although we made a slightly longer than planned pit stop at City Europe to stock up on the essential wine and cheese. Upon arrival we were met by the neighbours Julie and Mathew who hold the key and were given a tour of the premises. We were immediately impressed by the standard, size and finish of the accommodation, from the fully equipped kitchen (including brie baker which we only managed to use once and the wine cooler which we used a little more often) to the impressive master bedroom, with it's open plan bathroom. We used all areas of the property, but what a nice place to stay especially as we weren't very lucky with the weather. I guess for the best description check out the website, as what you see is what you get and that's pretty good - apart from we didn't see any cows passing twice a day! The location of the cottage is in Fressin, which is a little remote, but we knew this when booking so was never an issue for us. We used Hesdin to obtain most of our daily essentials which meant a trip of about 6 or so miles to acquire fresh croissants on our first (Sunday) morning. There's also a decent sized supermarket, so you can get all you need. There is a restaurant in Fressin, but it's only really open limited times and we never had the opportunity to try it. One thing we did try however, was the local wine cave in Fressin (Les Caves du Vieux Chal). What an excellent place with a serious choice of wine and something to suit all budgets, from their most popular bottle at 2.85 Euro each, up to the stuff locked away at 2000 Euros. The manager spoke excellent English and virtually insisted we try all the wines before we bought them - even the ones we didn't end up buying. After about an hour of sampling we ended up spending around 95 Euros on 6 bottles of sparkling wine (4.30 Euros each), 12 bottles of Merlot (4.35 Euro each) and 6 bottles the aforementioned popular wine. This is a place we'd definitely go back to given the chance.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. With a new system on the Holiday Lettings website we hope our booking will become slicker, and appreciate your comments Very glad you had a good time. look forward to welcoming you back, and remember we offer a 10% discount to all returning guests.
