From the owner

The Cow House is a lovely retreat with character and comfort in equal measure. It is suited to families (who will appreciate the play room) and to couples seeking a romantic get away. There is space for up to 5 people. All on one level there is lots of space - two bedrooms, large lounge, dining room, playroom and of course a kitchen and bathroom. The sunny courtyard garden is perfect for relaxing and outdoor dining.

There is a well equipped kitchen and large dining room.

The flower filled, sunny and secure garden allows children to play safely while you relax on the swing seat. Or they'll be kept amused in a playroom with toys and an indoor swing from the ceiling.

It is a very relaxing house inside. There is a large oak dining table in the beamed dining room. Two large sofas mean it is perfect for watching a movie. There is a bluetooth speaker and a modern TV screen with USB point & HDMi cable but no aerial. The house was wifi with France Telecom.

The main bedroom has a modern iron bed with kingsize mattress plus a single day bed. The second bedroom has two new single beds.

It is a fantastic place to relax and unwind at any time of year. The village is in the Seven Valleys and has lovely walks, bike trails and things to do. The nearby Opal Coast has glorious sandy beaches, golf courses, a theme park, summer festivals and a brilliant water park. Paris is less than 3 hours away by car or TGV via Arras,

The area has plenty of interesting history: Montreuil-ser-Mer is a fortified town made famous by Victor Hugo and Les Miserables. Visit Arras with its huge food market and lovely squares or follow the history of the First World War sites and museums throughout the area . Vimy Ridge is an hour away while the new museums at Ypres or the Somme can be reached within 90 minutes. The battlefield at Agincourt is 20 minutes away.

There is a bakery in the next door village (1 mile away), the amenities of Hesdin within 4 miles and markets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in nearby towns.

As our own second home, the Cow House is a lovingly restored property with a high level of comfort and charm. This is a family home with lots of toys and equipment for children. There is a cot, a high chair, a changing mat, kids crockery, books and toys, If you don't have children please don't worry as there is lots of very comfortable grown up space without a toy in sight!

Our prices are simple: £395 a week except for July and August (£495 a week). We accept short lets at £90 a night in off peak periods. We ask that you leave the cottage as you find it and we ask for a £100 deposit in addition to cover breakages which is repayable within 7 days of departure.

There is lots of hot water and central heating for the cooler months covering morning and evening.

We provide freshly made up beds.

We have an English keyholder living a few miles away if you have any problems during your stay.

We have had many happy guests over the last few years and hope that we have covered the things you need to know. Please phone, text or e.mail if there's anything you need to know.

Here's what our recent guests wrote in the guestbook:

"A lovely relaxing hideaway, far from the madding crowd.. Very lucky to have been here" (June)

"We enjoyed shopping in the local markets, cooking here and eating outside in the pretty sheltered garden. We recommend L'Ecurie in Hesdin for a special meal" (July)

"The seven valleys were beautiful in the summer sunshine and the harvest is underway. The cottage was a peaceful well equipped base" (August)

"We have had a great week. All four arrived a little fatigued and all four now feel refreshed. The house itself is great for a young family in all regards. Wish we'd left all our toys at home. We have thoroughly enjoyed all the local attractions. The kids liked dressing up for the city wall museum at Montreuil" (October)

Further details

A £100 security deposit is payable prior to arrival and will be repaid subject cleaning/breakages/damages within 7 days of departure. There is normally no cleaning charge but we ask that you leave the cottage as you find it. If you bring a pet, there will be an additional £20 cleaning charge which we pay to our keyholders. There is lots of hot water and central heating morning and evening for the cooler months. Bedding duvets, pillows and towels are provided free of charge. We have an English keyholder living in a nearby village if you have any problems during your stay.

Further details indoors

As our own second home, the Cow House is a lovingly restored property with a high level of comfort and charm. Whilst we have packed away our personal belongings we have left lots of things for your use that you would not normally find in a holiday cottage. These include books, games, toys, a wide selection of films (on DVD) and beach equipment.

We have two children so the house is well equipped with a cot, a high chair, a changing mat, kids crockery, indoor and out door toys, kids books and programmes. Please be aware that there are toys with small parts.

Further details outdoors

The courtyard garden is pretty, sunny and secure. There is a paved eating area with a table, chairs and parasol. There is a BBQ, sandpit, swing seat, and hammock. It is a mature garden with some stunning plants including a rambling red rose round the door. As the house is single storey it has 3 doors opening on to the garden making the garden very accessible. There is a parking bay at the side of the house for one car. Please reverse in as it is just about impossible to drive in forwards. There is space under the windows at the front of the house for an additional car. There is only one near neighbour who is very quiet so you will be undisturbed and not overheard. The house is opposite a working farm.

Owner's reply:
Future guests should note that there is a large Carrefour 3 miles away away in Hesdin, a bakery less than 1 mile away at the edge of Aubin St Vaast (next village) and a cafe (Le Diplomat) in the Cavron St Martin itself which sells some emergency supplies. No need to bring everything in advance - the house is well stocked.
