Cwm Mill is a spacious, beautifully presented former water mill, set in a stunning location bordering the River Monnow, within the linear village of Craswall. Nestled at the foot of Black Hill on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, it is surrounded by peaceful farmland, ancient hedgerows and an abundance of wildlife. The house is equipped with quality furnishings to create a welcoming home from home for up to 10 guests.

Parts of the house date back to 1823, so it is full of character with oak beams and thick stone walls in what was originally the millkeeper's cottage. The large extension features the same beautiful external stonework with spacious, modern rooms including the master bedroom and the twin room.

The main door to Cwm Mill opens into a large hallway with doors to a downstairs cloakroom, spacious living room and the open plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen features granite work surfaces and an all electric range cooker, plus dishwasher and fridge (there is an additional large fridge/freezer in the utility room, along with microwave, washing machine and tumble drier). The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need for your stay, including generous cupboard storage. You can arrange a grocery delivery to Cwm Mill if you wish to - despite the rural location, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Asda and Tesco all deliver to there from Hereford. Alternatively, Abergavenny is well served with Waitrose, Aldi and Morrisons supermarkets. The dining area features a woodburning stove and the large farmhouse dining table seats up to 10.

The large living room features 3 sofas and an occasional armchair arranged around the stone fireplace with woodburning stove. A starter basket of logs, kindling and firelighters is provided for guests, ideal for relaxing in cosy comfort in the evenings.

Off the living room is a further room where you'll find a double sofa bed which allows a total of 10 guests. We have high-speed fibre broadband installed straight to the property so it is reliable and stable. If you are bringing very young children on holiday, we'll happily provide up to 2 travel cots and high chairs to help free up boot space in your car!

The stairs to the four bedrooms rise from the entrance hallway to a large, airy landing in the newer part of the house where you'll find the master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite shower room. This room has a king size bed and French windows with Juliet balcony overlooking the extensive gardens to the front of the property. The quality furnishings include a large chest of drawers, pair of bedside cabinets and lamps and an occasional chair.

A hallway to the left from the landing leads to the spacious twin bedroom with dual aspect windows and 3ft single zip and link beds which can also be configured to create a super king size bed. A large built in wardrobe, chest of drawers and pair of bedside cabinets provide ample clothes storage.

A second hallway off the main landing leads into the original part of the house where the character of the original cottage has been preserved with exposed oak beams and low ceilings. Two further double bedrooms, each dual aspect, and the family bathroom are in this part of the house. Both bedrooms have new furniture and are full of charm and character, with low ceilings and exposed oak beams.

The Family bathroom is adjacent to these rooms, and offers a Whirlpool bath, shower over the bath, hand basin and toilet.

Outside are large, level lawns perfect for ball games, or al fresco dining on the picnic benches by the fruit trees (we provide a large barbecue in the warmer months). Although you can only see the river from the bank on the far side of the garden, you'll be able to hear it as it meanders by. Cwm Mill also has its own dedicated parking area with space for 4 cars.

We provide all bedlinens and towels, oil-fired central heating and Wifi.

We also have 2 smaller cottages, each with their own private garden and parking, on the same site, plus a paddock. You are welcome to access the paddock but please be aware that there are often sheep or cattle grazing there so please follow the country code, especially closing the gate.

Please note that there is a path through Cwm Mill's garden to provide access to the one bedroomed cottage.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Gethin (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
