Set in lawned grounds, approached by a long tree-lined driveway, with lovely bedrooms and reception rooms, including an original billiard room and full size tennis court, Ashmorton would be a perfect venue to celebrate a family birthday, anniversary or other special event.

Dating from 1860, when the house was built for a gentleman farmer who owned a 380 acre estate of the surrounding farmland, Ashmorton has had an interesting history, including having once been the home of a tea-plantation owner in India. At the turn of the century the house is said to have been sold to pay a huge gambling debt!

As the property is so near to London; less than 30 miles by car from the M25 and under 35 mininutes by train from Kings Cross, the attractions of London are easily accessible. In addition, there are a host of activities and attractions available locally within Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. The house would be a wonderful base from which to explore the historic attractions of Hatfield House, Woburn Abbey and the Wimpole Estate near Royston. Days out with the children include Whipsnade Zoo and Woburn Safari Park, as well as the Duxford Air Museum. Further afield, but also worth exploring, are the historic towns of St Albans and Cambridge. The old market towns of Hitchin and Baldock are both just 4 miles away and offer lots of restaurants and shops. Good "gastro pubs" to eat locally include The Bell at Westoning and The Black Horse at Ireland, which is just 5 minutes away. The Auberge Du Lac at Brockett Hall in Welwyn is a formal five star restaurant which provides the highest standards in cuisine and service. Housed in Brocket Hall’s former hunting lodge, Auberge du Lac enjoys an idyllic lakeside setting overlooking the beautiful 543 acre country estate and the Hall itself.
