Location description from owner

The Lincolnshire region

The Heart of England / Peak District / Lincolnshire region.

Lincolnshire has historically always been an important agricultural area, and it remains largely rural, with broad vales, gentle hills (the Lincolnshire Edge and Wolds), with hundreds of small villages (many with wonderful ancient churches) and many miles of empty back roads. Caistor, Kirton-in-Lindsey, Barton-upon-Humber and Louth still keep their characters as largely Georgian market towns. Lincoln still has considerable Roman remains, a Norman castle, a superb cathedral, and a medieval shopping area on Steep Hill.

Hemswell Cliff (less than 1 mile from the cottage) has a vast range of antiques in a series of old RAF blocks.

Gainsborough (8 miles) has its Old Hall, a large medieval manor house, a modern shopping centre: Marshall's Yard with Laura Ashley and Marks & Spencer.

Lincoln, as well as its historic features, has several good museums. it also has an excellent range of good restaurants.

Doddington Hall, near Lincoln, is a superb Tudor house and gardens.

For children, Sundown Adventure Land theme park for under 10s (16 miles) and Yorkshire Wildlife Park (22miles) are both great outings.

The Trinity Arts Centre, Gainsborough, and the Drill Hall, Lincoln produce programmes of live performances.
