Description from owner

Description

No1 is built into the hillside and benefits from significant solar gain from the south facing double height windows - this means warmth and light even on dull days. Our visitors' first reaction is usually that it is much bigger and open than they expected. Its design makes it warm and cosy with no heating needed for most of the year.

Architecturally striking, this is a mezzanine design over two floors with ceilings up to 18 feet high yet it feels cosy, intimate, private, safe and a home from home. You can park two cars outside on the quiet, cobbled cul-de-sac and two bikes inside.

This property is designed to be a romantic getaway for couples or a retreat from the world for a single, perhaps to just read, write and walk. There is a spare double blow up bed for kids or a visiting (close) friend or couple. If you require this then please let us know and extra bedding and linen will be made available with a surcharge of £20 - this is to cover the extra time needed by our cleaner.

No1 is furnished with a mix of vintage stuff, Space Age objects and Mersey Tunnel memorabilia alike. The furniture ranges from Eames to Noguchi, vintage Ikea to family pieces and a squashy exhausted leather settee that will swallow you. There's a relaxed lounge, a glass writing desk, great kitchen, and a wonderfully romantic bedroom, all with great lighting for reading and relaxing.

Equipment levels are high. Low energy LED lighting, HDTV with DVD and FreeView (digital TV and radio) that plays through a Tivoli sound system with sub that will also take your iPod; Roberts FM radio. There is wifi (it can be turned off if you prefer) and wired Internet access (Ethernet), with unlimited downloads and high connection speeds. There are a pile of DVDs provided too and more books than you could read in a year.

The bedroom (actually a massive deck that floats over the living area) can be enclosed with lovely purple voile curtains, there is mood lighting, a large kingsize bed (with extra memory foam on the frame so it doesn't hurt your legs getting in and out) with a hypoallergenic genuine latex mattress and a mattress topper. Persian rugs, cushions galore. If you have a small child or a friend staying over there is a spare double mattress available and piles of spare bedding plus some toys downstairs.

The kitchen is a fantastic size and well equipped with Smeg appliances, fridge and freezer, salad spinner, juicer, the best crockery set ever (!) all utensils, pans etc. plus seating for four and additional seating should you need it. You can prepare dinner whilst talking to other members of your party in the open plan living area, so cooking on holiday needn't be a chore.

The contemporary bathroom has a shower, bath, illuminated bathroom mirror and cabinet with charging / shaver point and heated towel rail, high and low lighting, the latter without the extractor fan . We fitted a British built A rated condenser boiler in Feb 2013, for piping hot water and instant heating.

Location description from owner

The West Yorkshire region

Hebden Bridge is a bohemian, artistic town full of interesting places and people. It is surrounded by amazing countryside which can be easily accessed without getting into the car, we have two large areas of woodland within a couple of hundred metres from the front door with paths radiating for miles into unspoiled forest and moorland, along the rivers and into Hardcastle Crags.

Hebden has been written up by the Guardian, Lonely Planet and even British Airways who called it the funkiest place in Britain. There is live music locally almost every night of the week, at the Trades Club and the Stubbing Wharf amongst others. We also have three microbreweries, an arts festival, food festival, walk and ride festival and more...oh yes

Could not recommend highly enough. Infact that's pretty much all I've been doing since we stayed here! Despite reading that it's bigger than it looks I was still shocked by how big it actually was! Clean and tidy, all the amenities you could need and perfectly located... I think we'll be back.

Thanks so much Ross, I'm so glad you had a top time, best, Kate
