Location description from owner

The England region

East Sussex is one of the most wooded areas of England. There is still however a lot of open countryside, farmland and the new South Downs National Park. It is bounded by the North and South Downs and has many notable tourist attractions varying between chocolate box villages which have not changed for hundreds of years to modern attractions and leisure and sporting facilities. There are a number of golf courses nearby including the East Sussex National which is 20 minutes drive away from us. There are extensive public footpaths as well as the famous Cuckoo Trail for walkers and cyclists which runs from near to The Studio all the way to Eastbourne along a disused railway track which has been tarmaced over and passes through beautiful countryside. This also runs close to The South Downs Way which runs along the whole length of the South Downs and can be walked or cycled in stages. There are markets in many villages and we have a tradition of Farmers Markets and small specialist shops in many of our high streets and fresh sea food is available from most of our seaside towns. Notable towns and places to visit include Lewes, Alfriston, Eastbourne and Brighton Marinas, Pevensey Bay, Battle, Seaford, Exceat/Seven Sisters Country Park, Beachy Head, The Ashdown Forest, The new art galleries at both Eastbourne (The Towner) and Hastings (The Jerwood on the Stade), Hastings Old Town/fishing sheds and George Street. Charleston Farmhouse, Glyndebourne Opera House, Drusillas Animal Park and The Bluebell (steam) Railway. There are many National Trust properties and gardens within 1 hours driving time. Sussex Cream teas are a must-do tradition!

Heathfield

Heathfield is the geographical centre of East Sussex and is a small town with a market on Tuesdays and
Saturdays. It has 2 large supermarkets and a range of small shops such as a butcher, greengrocer, delicatessen, book/art shop, pharmacists and a range of the usual take-aways, restaurants and cafes. Surrounding Heathfield is a network of footpaths and cycle tracks and within easy reach are award winning beaches (mostly pebbley), sporting facilities, golf courses, tennis clubs, swimming pools and outdoor activity centres. Dogs are well catered for with many dog-friendly pubs and restaurants.

“A Relaxing Retreat”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2013

We had a very pleasant two night stay at the Garden Cottage and enjoyed the quiet of the surroundings of the woods that are next to the property. The cottage is 4 mins away from many supermarkets and 40 mins away from the beautiful Beachy Head. I would recommend this stay to couples who want to relax and unwind.

“a marvelous Eastern weekend, thanks Paul & Joanna”

This Cottage we relay like to recommend to all of you how like to spend some quality time in a nice surrounding. We had a very pleasant stay at “The Garden Cottage” which enameled us and our dog the Beagle Hunter, to not only relax from a visit to our daughter Nicolette, her English friend Darryl and their French Bulldog Thurso in London. The next day they did come to the Cottage, loved it as well and spend a day waking in the Forrest. We all enjoyed the quiet of these surroundings of Little London. Advised by our lovely hostess Paul and Joanna, giving us a warm welcome the first day, we also had a great lunch at “The Gun” which was excellent. So Paul and Joanna, thank you very much for our marvelous Eastern weekend at your lovely Garden Cottage and not to forget the warm welcome with scones, tea, etc. Peter & Marijke and beagle Hunter

“Fantastically tucked away retreat.”

Upon arrival The Garden Studio looked just as good as it did in the pictures, and as we entered the property we were not disappointed. Seeing it in person made us realise that the Studio was a fantastically designed and well finished project. The owners are extremely helpful and polite. There was some lovely personal touches that they made. The cleaniness of the Studio was second to none and it has everything you could require to have a lovely countryside break. The ground surrounding the Studio are perfect for walking and exploring, so the fact that being allowed to take a dog with you is ideal and will result in a great experience for all. There are many locally situated Country pubs nearby that all seem lovely and most accommodate dogs. If you enjoy being out in the country and having a peaceful getaway then you will not be disappointed to be staying at the Garden Studio.
