Description from owner

Description

Fuzzy Duck Cottage is a pretty traditional cottage, approximately 115 years old, situated in the centre of the thriving village of Heacham. Within close walking distance of all the village amenities and a 15 minute walk to the beach, the cottage provides an ideal base for a holiday in North Norfolk. The accommodation has been carefully refurbished to a very high standard throughout. Real fire ideal for cosy nights in. Both TVs include DVD players, plus a Wii games console. A selection of videos are also available, plus a number of board games. Large enclosed rear garden with BBQ & nicely appointed Summer House. The cottage is always spotlessly clean & a generous welcome pack greets all guests. We also have a travel cot & high chair. We have stair gates at both the top & bottom of the open staircase. There are 3 bikes in the garden shed - whilst these are not part of the cottage rental - you are very welcome to use them, but you so at your own risk.

Walking distance from 3 pubs that all serve good food, 2 traditional butchers, one off licence & Fish and Chip Shop. For lovers of continental food, the village also offers an Indian & Chinese Restaurant. Heacham also offers a Tesco Express & small Co-op store for your everyday essentials. Hunstanton (5 min drive) has "full-blown" Tesco/Sainsburys.

For golfers there's a number of fine golf courses within close proximity, including Heacham Manor.

For those that love wild life, its not unusual to see seals swimming from the beach, with seal trips also available in nearby Blakeney. Heacham is also ideally suited for bird watching being only a short distance from a number of brilliant nature reserves (Titchwell/Snettisham). There are 3 sets of binoculars in cottage.

For those with younger children/teenagers there's the funfair at Hunstanton.

Hopefully our reviews of the cottage speak for themselves!

Officially cottage sleeps 5 people, but as s we now have bunk beds in the small bedroom we can now accommodate up to 6 people. However, there would be a small surcharge for a 6th person staying. Please ask for details. We are happy to discuss small discounts for couples only wishing to use one bedroom in the off peak seasons. Generally our change over days are Saturday to Saturday - but during less busy periods we are happy to discuss other days. Also out of season we are more than happy to accommodate midweek breaks. Please ask.

If we've missed anything in the above, we are only too happy to answer any question or provide additional photos. Please don't hesitate to get in touch.

PARKING:

We often get asked about this, parking is on the road outside the cottage, as its a very quiet road this is never an issue and if you can't get directly outside the front door, there's always ample spaces to the left of the cottage. As you will see from our reviews parking is not an issue. Hope this helps.

Interaction with guest

Usually the keys will be left in a keysafe outside the cottage. However, our neighbour also has a spare set and is also available should you have any maintenance concerns. He also tends the garden & will put the bins out for you. We are also contactable 24/7 on our mobiles. On a Saturday change over, the cottage is usually ready by 2.00pm, although officially its yours from 4.00pm. We always text to advise what time we should be finished. If we don't have guests in before your stay, you can usually arrive as early as you like. Departure on your last day is 10.00am I'm afraid.

“Perfect home from home”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2017

Heacham is our favourite holiday destination in the UK and Fuzzy Duck Cottage our favourite place to stay! Wonderfully clean and well maintained with lots of little extras to make your stay really special. From the welcome pack to the lovely large garden I can not find anything to fault!

Owner's reply: That's so nice to read. And thanks for taking the trouble to do the review. With the summer season almost over we are really looking forward to using the cottage ourselves.Regards Dave and Helen.

“Lovely, welcoming holiday cottage”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2016

Fuzzy Duck is situated within easy reach of shops and food outlets and is an ideal base for exploring the Norfolk coast or some of the inland villages. It is very well equipped as the owners try to anticipate all needs.Clearly David & Helen take pride in their property and it is extremely well presented. The lounge, dining room, kitchen and bathroom are well equipped. All the bedrooms are well furnished and comfortable. There is a large garden with plenty of seating options as well as space to play. David and Helen were very helpful, sending final details of the cottage address and entry procedure together with information about attractions in the area. A welcome pack awaited us on our arrival.

Owner's reply: Martin - thank you for taking the trouble to do this review. As mentioned when you stayed we hadn't quite finished the Summer House - but glad to say that's now complete & ready to be used in the Summer. Hope we can welcome you back another time, you'd be very welcome. Thanks Dave & Helen.

“Wonderful cottage; great base for exploring Norfolk”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2016

We stayed here for a week over Easter, a family of four (two children, 9 and 11) from Germany. The cottage was spotless, with a very cozy feel to it and comfortable beds. It is in a quiet street, with a nice garden at the back, and well equipped. The owners made you feel very welcome, provided useful and friendly information before and during the stay and left a wonderful welcome pack, which was highly appreciated after the long trip. The location is ideal not only for beach-related activities but also for sight-seeing and other holiday-activities; we particularly enjoyed visiting Sandringham. The kids expecially loved spending a day at Snettisham farm. We would definitely recommend this cottage!

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for taking the trouble to do this review. And also for the very kind text you sent us. We are chuffed to bits that you & your family enjoyed Norfolk as much as we do. Regards Dave & Helen.

A perfect holiday home- with a great deal of thought going into the decor to suit it's surroundings. Very well equipped throughout and perfectly situated for lovely walks.

“Lovely cottage”

Reviewed 25 Jan 2016

Fuzzy Duck is a lovely, welcoming cottage. The owners go out of their way to ensure that you have everything that you may need. There was a lovely welcome hamper. The bed was very comfortable and the cottage spotless. It was close to nice pubs and lovely beaches. Will definitely visit again.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the review and we look forward to welcoming you back another time. Regards Dave and Helen.

“A Perfect Break”

Reviewed 6 Dec 2015

My Wife and I stayed at the Fuzzy Duck from Monday to Saturday in November; the reason for our stay was to explore the area. I had bad experiences with Bed and Breakfast accommodation and also with holiday cottages in the past and have stayed in hotels since then; my wife suggested that we try a cottage again. The Fuzzy Duck lived up to the positive reviews and surpassed my expectations; with high quality accommodation, excellent welcome pack and very useful and timely information and support from the owner. I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough and will be trying other cottages from now on.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the lovely review. Good to hear we've re-invigorated your appetite for holiday cottages. We'd love to welcome you back another time.

“Lovely warm, clean and welcoming cottage.”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2015

Fuzzy Duck is situated in the heart of Heacham village with easy access to shops and food outlets. It is an ideal base for exploring the Norfolk coast or some of the inland villages. As the beach faces onto the Wash it is a very safe beach and has some fabulous sunsets. The play barn at the Norfolk Lavender Farm is ideal for wet days. Fuzzy Duck is very well equipped and extremely well presented. It is clearly much loved by the owners as well as being a holiday let. The garden is well laid out and there are plenty of seating options as well as space to play. The utility room is an added bonus for all those sandy wellies, buckets and spades! The Master bedroom is a touch of luxury with lovely furnishings. The second bedroom also has a double bed and is useful that the two beds have mattresses of differing firmness/softness so that you have a comfort choice! Fuzzy Duck is not really suitable for the under 5s due to the open staircase and the cabin bed in the single bedroom. Having said that Dave and Helen were very accommodating in providing a z bed and stair gates for our 2 year old granddaughter. The only slight negative was that we didn't find the lounge furniture terribly comfortable but that is more about personal preference rather than a fault with the furniture. Dave and Helen were very hospitable, texting us a few days before arrival with final details and again after arrival to ensure that we were happy. We were greeted with a very generous welcome pack and the fire ready laid so we could relax straight away into our holiday.

Owner's reply: Firstly thank you for all of your positive comments. We would however, disagree about its suitability for under 5s. Over 50% of our bookings are from families with young children. The open staircase you refer to has fixed (permanent) stair gates at both the top & bottom, so unless the child is left unsupervised on the stairs it shouldn't ever be an issue. With regards to the cabin bed, we 100% agree that its not suitable for very young children and that's why we always double check with our guests and give them the option of using the z-bed (which fits under the bunk) or offer the use of our travel cot. Thanks again for taking the trouble to do the review and if we find other guests make similar comments going forward, rest assured we would take appropriate action.

“Great cottage, really well equipped and comfortable”

Reviewed 26 Sep 2015

Had high expectations after reading all the good reviews, and we weren't disappointed. The owners have put in so much attention to detail, everything you could think of was provided, and everything was to a high standard. We brought our 9 month old baby, and he slept beautifully in the comfy cot provided. There was even a hooded baby bath towel waiting for him! The garden was lovely too, he enjoyed practicing his walking out there. Quiet village location, about 15 mins walk to the beach and a short drive into hunstanton. We went on the seal trip which was good as well. Highly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to explore north Norfolk.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the excellent review we never tire of getting positive feedback. And we love hearing that families enjoy the cottage, village and area as much as we do. Hopefully we can welcome you back another time. Regards Dave and Helen.

“Fantastic!”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2015

This is a great cottage with everything you need in a quiet but convenient location. I traveled here with my partner and our 3 month old daughter. We wanted somewhere quiet, but where we could access places for day trips. This didn't disappoint with Sandringham and Wells-next-the-sea (amongst others) easily accessible. The cottage itself is very nice, with probably everything you need. It is in a quiet location with a great garden for outside drinking and eating, yet is only a short walk from local amenities. The owners were also always prompt to reply to any queries and questions (about both the cottage and the local area). We would definitely rent this cottage again!!

Owner's reply: Thank you for the very generous review, it really is appreciated, especially as we did have a couple of hick-ups, one that was my fault & one that was BTs. Thanks again for being so understanding. You'd be very welcome back any time. Regards Dave & Helen.

“Perfect place to stay”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2015

This was our second stay at the property and once again it exceeded our expectations, especially with the improvments to the garden (which is large, enclosed and perfect for young wandering children!). As we have two young children the stair gates are a fab addition and a highchair was also provided for us, plenty of space indoors as well for them to run around. We will most definitely be booking a third stay next year.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the trouble to do the review especially as you've done one after your first visit. It's also nice to hear you like the small improvement we've been making. Since you left we've also replaced the bed and mattress in the second bedroom and the mattress in the bunk bed. We look forward to you visiting us again. Regards Dave and Helen.
