Privately-owned thatched self-catering chalet (sleeping maximum of 6 people) on the award-winning Legacy Hotels, Kruger Park Lodge golf estate in Hazyview, Mpumalanga. Located in a peaceful area of the estate, overlooking a golf fairway. One of the resort swimming pools is a short stroll from our house. There is one double bedroom upstairs with a balcony looking out over the fairway to the hills on the far bank of the River Sabie. Two twin bedrooms downstairs, one with a door out on to the large wooden braai deck. All bedrooms are air-conditioned and have duvets. Three bathrooms, all with a bath and two of them have a separate shower. Spacious, open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. A baby cot (subject to availability from housekeeping) can be provided.
Short or long stays are possible. Please e-mail to check availability as the on-line calendar is not being used.
Access to the house is via a short flight of steps (at both front and back), with handrails either side. Car port for two cars. It would be difficult to get the most out of a stay without a car.
The house offers full self-catering facilities, including a coffee filter machine - important in a coffee producing part of the country! Daily housekeeping is not included as many guests prefer to enjoy the peace and quiet. But it is available (and is not expensive) for those who wish. The house is surrounded by indigineous trees and is a bird-watchers paradise, with Brown-hooded Kingfishers and Paradise Flycatchers being seen regularly in the trees surrounding the house.

The Mpumalanga region
Mpumalanga which means "the place where the sun rises" is a Province situated in eastern South Africa, bordering on Swaziland and Mozambique. It comprises Highveld and Lowveld. Agriculture, tourism and mining are all important parts of Mpumalanga's economy. The area around Hazyview is known for coffee, nuts, citrus fruits, bananas, forestry, maize and more.
Hazyview is in the Lowveld and has a subtropical climate making it ideal for holidays from overseas all year round and a popular place for a break for those living in the colder Highveld. Daytime temperatures in the Summer months (October - March) can be quite hot (average is around 29 degrees) and whilst the Winter months (particularly June and July) are much cooler, it is usually pleasantly warm during the day, with average daytime temperatures of around 22 degrees. Nightime temperatures in July can go as low as 7 degrees. Most rainfall is during the Summer months.
Being a service centre for the surrounding farms, Hazyview has all you need by way of shops and facilities. It is the ideal place to base yourself for spending time in the nearby Kruger National Park and for exploring Mpumalanga.
Hazyview is regarded as being a low risk area for malaria.
Visits to the Kruger National Park are, for many, the main reason for going to Hazyview but other areas of interest are:
Blyde River Canon; Three Rondavels
Graskop: God’s Window; the Pinnacle; Wonder View; Lisbon Falls; Berlin Falls;
Bourke’s Luck potholes
Pilgrim’s Rest (a very windy road so allow plenty of time for this trip)
Sabie: lots of waterfall walks (recommend Mac Mac falls and Mac Mac pools plus Secretary Bird walk; Lone Creek Falls
Nelspruit: botanical gardens; crocodile farm; close to Mozambique
And a bit further afield:
Dullstroom/Lydenburg: fly fishing
Belfast: daffodils and tulips in September
Barberton: scenic, walks; close to Swaziland
Chrissiemeer: South Africa’s ‘Lake District’
Kaapsehoop: scenic, walks
Badplaas: hot springs
Waterval-Boven: Adam’s Calendar - ancient stone formations; Elands River Falls
