The England region

The Lake District National Park contains almost every feature of mountain scenery, verdant valleys, major lakes, lesser-known " tarns ", majestic waterfalls, beautiful scenery and breathtaking views. It is the largest National Park in England and has been so since 1951. Famous for its mountains, including the famous Helvellyn and Sca Fell Pike - the highest peak in England (3210 ft), the area provides a real challenge for climbers or a relaxing break in the fresh air and glorious outdoors.

Lake Windermere is situated in the heart of England's National Parkland in the beautiful lake district, famous for its lofty peaks and tranquil lakes and sheer beauty. There are 16 lakes and over 500 secluded tarns all set in magnificent countryside. Windermere, the longest lake, stretches for over 10 miles.

Hawkshead

Ambleside, one of the pearls of the Lake District, is set in the centre of the region at the head of Lake Windermere. This lively market town provides everything a visitor could want – from the many shops offering wares for walkers and climbers to the many eating and drinking establishments.

The town is rich in history and heritage. Originally containing a Roman fort Ambleside has always been an important area of the Lake District. Buildings such as the 17th-century Bridge House, one of the smallest houses in Britain, and the Ambleside Museum (home to many Beatrix Potter artefacts) offer visitors an insight into local life in bygone days. Nearby Stock Ghyll Force, a beautiful waterfall, provides another stunning natural feature.

An ideal base for a walking holiday, Ambleside has easy access to the surrounding fells and breathtaking mountains. For the less energetic, there are strolls along the shore, boat trips on the lake and many other things to do and see. Shoppers are well catered for with an abundance of outdoor retail outlets, craft shops and galleries.

“Great Cottage, Great Location......”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2012

Stayed here for a 4 night break over the Easter weekend. Wanted somewhere close to Ambleside and this cottage fitted the bill exactly. The cottage is positioned brilliantly with walks and biking trails from the door. We biked from the cottage one day, into Grizedale forest around various MTB trails and back to the cottage. Also climbed Helvelynn and only a 30min drive to the start of the walk. Hawkshead is only 5 min drive away but could easily be walked or cycled from the cottage. It is also a couple of hundred metres walk to the Outgate Inn which serves fantastic food and local beers!! Toured around some of the other local villages aswell which was very easy to do from here. Cottage is well equipped with a fantastic kitchen, which is very modern and has everything you will ever need. Didnt need to use the log burning stove but imagine it heats up the cottage very quickly. Ideally sized for 2 people, with en-suite toilet as well as main bathroom and king sized bed. There was a place round the back to lock the bikes up to, and the key was easily accessed from a security box underneath the rafters.
