There are three good supermarkets, ski-hire shops with storage facilities close to the ski-lift, ski-wear and ski equipment boutiques, plenty of restaurants, bakeries, pharmacy, butcher (which sells rotisserie chicken to order), popular apres-ski bars, a spa with swimming pool attached to the Quatre Vallées Hotel and open to non-residents.

Location description from owner

The Swiss Alps region

Haute-Nendaz is situated above Sion, the capital of the Canton of Le Valais, in the Rhone-Valley. Le Valais is famous for its sunny vineyards and ski-resorts. Sion has a quaint old town centre huddled around two rocky hillocks on which stand castles and monasteries. On the outskirts of Sion at Conthey there is a commercial area (trading estate) of large supermarkets , furniture stores, DIY and electrical shops.

There are two excellent thermal spa resorts which are worth a visit as a change from skiing or if you are not a skier at all. It is a 30 minute drive to the Bains de Saillon which are in the valley, the water is warm, there are hammams, steam rooms, saunas and jets of water in the swimming pools which will effectively massage weary limbs and back - afterwards do visit the pretty village of the same name with its mediaeval tower and wine bar . The Thermal baths at Ovronnaz are a further 15 minutes climb past the vineyards and there you can enjoy the facilities and gaze at the snow-covered peaks around you.

At Martigny there are the ruins of a Roman Amphitheatre and the Fondation Giannada holds high quality exhibitions of the work of famous artists. The road to Verbier and to the Grand St Bernard Tunnel (for Italy) are also here. As well as being an excellent ski-resort in winter, Verbier holds a prestigious Summer International Classical Music Event in August.

Haute Nendaz

If you are a dedicated skier, there is probably no need to leave Nendaz during your stay.

Self-catering is made easier by the excellent supermarkets, bakeries and the local butchers (where you can order a rotisserie chicken). If you prefer to eat out you can get all the local delicacies which are designed to fill the hungry skier - raclette, fondue, the excellent Fendant and Dôle wines, charcuterie - the local viande séchée and saucisson, walnut bread, as well as pizza, tex-mex, and Italian and Swiss fine dining. Several shops offer ski rental, equipment for sale, skiwear, boots, goggles etc. Booking group and individual lessons is also easy.

During the ski season, there is a shuttle bus which runs through the resort with a bus-stop close to the chalet, which will drop you at the ski-lift in a few minutes and there is also a shuttle to and from Siviez, which allows you to take advantage of the incredible network of ski-lifts which cover the Quatre Vallées Ski Domain.

During the Summer months, the climate is ideal for walking and cycling - there are several shops which hire out good quality mountain bikes and helmets. Cycling and walking routes are signposted and there is plenty of information from the local tourist office.
