Situated in the peaceful village of Hartland, North Devon this Grade 2 listed Georgian Town house (cira 1725) is the perfect location throughout the year, whether it be for a fun, adventure filled summer holiday or a place for a cosy, atmospheric Christmas together. The accommodation comprises of a hallway that retains its original dado panelling, mosaic tiled floor and open well stair case (We haved fixed gates at both the top and bottom of the stairs), ground floor cloakroom, sitting room with raised and fielded panelling, a living room, a dining room, kitchen/breakfast room and utility room. Up stairs there are 5 good sized bedrooms 4 of which still have the original fire places (non functional), plus a single room, shower room and bathroom. Ideal for large families and groups Charter house is anything but short of space inside and out.....At the front of the house is a paved patio area with a raised flower bed. To the rear is a good sized garden that is laid mainly to lawn with

In addition to the property's private outdoor space it is surrounded by British countryside with coastal walks, beaches, forestry and many sites of natural beauty.The village of Hartland, which Charter house sits in the middle of, is small but full of character. It holds farmers markets, craft fares, town concerts and various other events throughout the year such as a popular carnival week in the summer and a traditional christmas celebration week in the winter. Hartland has a few small shops including a post office, a few local pubs which serve local ales and food, and is local to the quayside town of Bideford and the Historic town of Barnstaple which are ideal destinations for shopping days or museum trips. Also if you do have young children the Milkyway, and the Big sheep adventure parks are two locations where the whole family can have a fun filled day, only a short drive away!A bus service runs between Hartland and Barnstaple via Clovelly and Bideford, and also to the town of Bude in cornwall.

For those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life, you will find the Hartland Peninsula hidden away in the north west corner of Devon, offering remoteness, wildness and natural beauty unlike any other area. Here you can explore the twelve miles of fantastic rugged coastline.
Hartland is a popular village with a small selection of shops and pubs about 2.5 miles off the A39. Charter house is in the very heart of Hartland. For those looking to come in the August summer Holidays, Hartland carnival is a must. This annual event is usually held during the first full week of August and includes a quiz night, bingo, a family fun night, ending with the grand display of colourful, artistic and amusing floats lead through the village by the Hartland town band.
Some of North Devon;s most breath taking coastline is nearby with many picturesque bays where you can spend hours fishing or exploring the rock pools. Hartland Quay with its hotel, pub and small museum is a great place to visit then spend the day on the beach with the family, and is the perfect location to watch some spectacular sunsets. There are many places of interest nearby which include Hartland Abbey, founded in 1157 by Augustinian monks.
Keen golfers and surfer can enjoy the golf courses or beaches at Westward Ho! and Bude, whilst other family attractions include: The Milky Way, The Big Sheep, Tapeley Park, and Dartington Crystal. Why not take a day boat trip from Bideford to Lundy Island, famous for its seabirds, including a few breeding pairs of the puffins which gave the island its name .Lundy Island and the waters around it are also the home to a wealth of other animals and plants. Alternatively you could explore the pretty harbour at Clovelly, where you may be able to hire a fishing boat to take out .
The port and market town of Bideford is approximately 15 miles away whist equally in distance in the opposite direction is the seaside town of Bude. Barnstable is about 26 miles from Hartland.

Please clear up after your dogs and dispose of your dog mess in bin that the council have provided which is located at the entrance to the car park (litter on the grass is not fair on next guests and we will charge a £10 fee if the gardener has to clear up after your dog).

“Lovely family house in pretty village”
This was a family holiday with 6 adults, 3 children aged 8-11 and 2 under 4. There was plenty of room for everyone and the children had their own living room! The house is situated in a pretty little village and right next door to a lovely family pub which serves great food and local beers. Noise is not an issue whatsoever. The house itself is very clean and fresh clean bedding and towels. We even had little mini chocolate eggs on our towels as it was Eastertime, which was a nice touch. As there was 11 of us there was just enough plates, plenty of mugs etc & cutlery, although one thing they could improve on is the cheap cutlery. It's very 'basic value' which felt about like being back at school, but it's really not a big issue in the grand scheme of things!! The bedrooms are all really spacious, no where to hang clothes particularly as the majority of wardrobes are locked for the owners use, but there's plenty of drawer space. There's a lovely big bath but takes a while to fill & takes all the hot water! Shower was good too! It's very central/easy to get to tourism sites like Woolacombe, Bude, The Milkyway, Bideford etc. We had a really lovely time, made good use of the lovely big garden which is very safe for little ones, we used the barbecue (although it wasn't warm enough to sit out) and had lovely big family meals around the kitchen table. Would go back tomorrow :)

We do supply a basic dinner set and cutlery in the kitchen as during the summer it is likely to be taken out side/ on picnics so needs to be replaced (due to breakages or loss) fairly often but we do provide a quality dinner set and cutlery in the dining room, we obviously need to make people aware of this. We will check the wardrobe situation and find out why you were unable to open the built in wardrobes as only one should be locked due to the fact that it is the linen store cupboard and also into providing a wardrobe in the double room. We hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Charter house again in the future
“Fantastic value for money house in a great location”
Charter House is a lovely big house, ideally located in Hartland village. The Worby family who rent it are lovely and very helpful, especially when rugby balls end up on the roof! The house is very clean and perfect for a large group as there are a choice of living spaces. It is great value for money, however having stayed in a few Airbnb properties recently, I would prefer to pay a little bit more and have basics such as washing up liquid, cooking oil, soap etc Anyhow we kept the local shop busy!

“A family holiday for 10”
A large 18th / 19th century house which provided plenty of accommodation for seven adults and three children. The rambling rustic house provided plenty of opportunities for hide and seek as well as rooms for quiet times. Hartland is ideal for access to beaches, the coastal path, quiet cycle rides and theme parks for the kids.

“Great big family house in the middle of the village”
It's a great big house for a family holiday. 6 bedrooms, a massive kitchen/diner, two sitting rooms and a dining room and it has a large secure garden for kids and dogs to run around in. It's perfectly positioned in the village, with pub's next door and opposite the square. The house has plenty of space and all the amenities you could need, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, Wifi. and Charlotte was close by to answer any questions we had about the house and popped in to show us how everything worked. It suited us perfectly and we'll definitely be back.

“Wonderful house for a large group”
We visited over the Easter holidays and had a fantastic time. The house was large enough for five children to happily occupy themselves for hours with games of hide and seek. There was a very nice welcome tray for us when we arrived withall the essentials for an initial cup of tea and coffee and a slice of cake. On Good Friday we went to one of the beaches in Bude and it was well worth the journey for a sunny day. Although the weather did not stay in our favour we enjoyed walking around the area and the children enjoyed riding their bikes. The little park in the village was very much enjoyed by the children as well. We have to recommend the Fish and Chip shop which was right on the doorstep. All cooked fresh to order and made a great Good Friday Supper. All the equipment and gadgets you would need and more, as seasoned cottage and house stayers very often essentail basics such as oven trays and peelers are missing but not at Charter House! The use of the big fridge and freezer were very much appreciated. We would definately consider Charter House for a revisit. Very good value and lots of space.

Beautiful old house full of charm with plenty of space for a large group to spread out and the king size bedrooms are really big. Ideally situated on the village square with a pub/restaurant next door (very quiet even on New Years eve) and a fish and chip shop literally a few steps away from the front door, village shop and post office very friendly and well stocked. Good walks for dogs nearby.
