Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

Nidderdale, part of the Yorkshire Dales, and the valley of the River Nidd carved out of the hills by glaciers in the Ice Age. The main town in the north is Pateley Bridge and in the south the market town of Knaresborough. Harrogate, the Spa town with its Royal Baths, is in the middle. Agriculture and tourism are big employers however many retire to the lovely town of Harrogate and sample the delights of the many cafes and restaraunts, especially the famous Betty's Café. Harrogate is a conference centre with excellent shops and many hotels have grown up to cater for the short and long term visitor. Try the mixture of town and country, local food and drink, pub and restaurant, relaxing or exercising in the heart of Yorkshire and have a memorable holiday.

Harrogate

Dacre is situated on a bend in the Nidd valley with views up to the north past Pateley Bridge and south towards Ripley. Situated on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales Nidderdale it is the quietest and most gentle of the major Dales. From Middlesmoor in the north down to Pateley (the capital of upper Nidderdale) and on to Ripley and Knaresborough in the south until the Nidd joins the Ouse at Nun Monkton it is a feast on the eyes with the changing scenery. Dacre is on the edge of the Nidderdale Way, a path taking the visitor around the banks of the Nidd plus countless other rights of way criss crossing the area. Fishing tickets are available at the local reservoirs or for the Nidd. Golf courses of varying degrees of difficulty are available in the main towns. Road cycling is growing in popularity and many participants are in action at weekends. Pateley Bridge (7km) has a swimming pool and fitness centre together with a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, serving excellent food and drink. Great local food can be obtained in all the eateries throughout the Dale.

“Excellent Cottage”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2017

We stayed at New Close Cottage between 18-22 March 2017 and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay visiting Brimham Rocks, Pately Bridge, RHS Harlow Carr, Harrogate, Malham Cove and Fountains Abbey. The cottage is wonderfully remote making it very quiet and peaceful with lovely views across fields but local shops and pubs are easily reached. It is well equipped, comfortable and the design is well thought out. The owners are very friendly and they keep the cottage beautifully clean. We strongly recommend it.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your kind review which we appreciate. So glad you enjoyed your stay in Nidderdale and managed to visit so many local attractions.

“Excellent accommodation with a view in peaceful surroundings”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2016

We stayed at 'New Close Cottage from 12th - 17th September an excellent property that we can highly recommend. Both the lounge and the bed were extremely comfortable, very good layout throughout. We were blessed with good weather which was a bonus, we took our bikes as the area was excellent in facilitating good safe cycle paths. We cycled into York from Beningborogh Hall which is a National Trust Property and well worth a visit. There are many pubs serving excellent food in close proximity, a car is needed however if you enjoy walking it is around a 2 mile walk to the Wellington which is in the village. We would have no issue returning to this property, our thanks to Ann for our welcome and in providing a clean and homely cottage.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your kind review and delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and managed to get in some cycling. It makes a big difference when the weather is good !! Kind regards Anne S

“Wonderful weeks stay in beautiful comfortable cottage in idyllic surroundings.”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2016

We had a wonderful week in New Close Cottage. The cottage is beautiful, really comfortable and immaculately clean. The views from the cottage are amazing. We found plenty to do in the area, from lovely walks and amazing places to see. Although not essential Wi Fi would have been a bonus. We would love to visit the cottage again.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your kind review and we would love to see you again. Anne S

“Peaceful luxury”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2014

We really enjoyed our stay in the lovely cottage. All possible luxury available and very kind hosts that made our stay most pleasant. The peace and quiet countryside was exactly what we hoped for and yet all the Yorkshire goodies are easy to get to from here Never drove more than 30 minutes one way). One thing to remember though: no internet and limited cellphone reach available. Good thing in our case!

Owner's reply: Hi Menno Many thanks for your kind review - we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards Anne S
