ZIPWORLD/BOUNCE BELOW just 20 minutes away! 3 mile long dune backed sandy beach 25 minutes walk.......Ty Mefus is a large warm modern 5 bedroom house in a quiet cul de sac just above Harlech castle. As we live nearby we can help with tailored holiday ideas and help sort out any of those other things that usually happen on holiday.... well they do to us anyway!. Each of the communal areas has a television, downstairs a dvd, upstairs a 4K HD broadband connected system, but of course you will be too busy exploring and enjoying the natural countryside to use those. There is also an external access to both floors of the house. All electric gas and internet are included.Very well behaved pets are welcome provided they are under the owners control at all times. We do ask that all guests respect that Harlech is a World Heritage Site and that Ty Mefus is in a very peaceful residential area where our friends and neighbours enjoy the tranquility of the area. If you are not sure if Ty Mefus is suitable for your holiday please contact us for further information or choose a more appropriate holiday home, for your stay in Harlech.

We can even position our caravan outside Ty Mefus to increase the bed capacity by 6 persons, although this will restrict car parking.......but there is a carpark just 200 metres away.

We can also offer fetch/carry or guided tours of the area , so there is no need to bring your own car, travel by rail!

Location description from owner

The North Wales region

Snowdonia .... from the snow capped mountains to the miles of golden sandy beaches, it is for you to explore, as we have, by Arriva Trains Wales, by narrow gauge railways, by bike, car and on foot.

Ty Mefus, Harlech is centrally placed for all of this and more. Try some of the world class adventure activities (and prices!) such as the new Surf centre, Zip World, Zip Below, Bounce Below, Blaenau downhill bike trails, gorge walking, kayaking, rock climbing, wakeboarding, tailored mine exploration trips etc.

Of course some of the better adventures and activities come for free, the views around Harlech, the National Slate Museum, walking Snowdon, Cader Idris, Cnicht, strolling the dune backed beaches, one for every day of the week! Go wild swimming in secret pools and lakes, relaxing on mountain pastures listening to the hefted sheep bleating about the latest escape route (yes Shaun the Sheep is more true to life than you might think) whilst the warm clear breeze washes your soul....If you fancy a bit of Welsh history and culture there are lots of castles, including Harlech (World Heritage Site). Walk to the ancient monument of Bryn Cader Faner stone circle. There is the Lloyd George museum, art galleries galore, theatres and cinemas, Hedd Wynns farm house, Portmerion and more National Trust Properties than farmers (well nearly).

Harlech

Harlech surrounds the World Heritage Site of Harlech Castle, so impressive we still visit it. Below the castle lie the flatlands which were once under the sea when the castle was built (global warming?), encompassing Royal St Davids Golf Course, the community swimming pool, climbing wall and tennis courts. From here, walk onto the renowned dune backed sands that go on forever accessed only by foot (or boat) ensuring it is always safe and relaxing. Above Harlech, a myriad of paths lead through woodlands, ancient open meadows and onto rugged mountainous terrain if you have the stamina.

Harlech itself has a bank, an amazing shoe shop, the infamous Seasons and Reasons (try and find something they don't stock!), a small coin arcade, ice cream shop, an old style sweet shop (very popular with the children), a chemist, newsagents, minimarts, antique shops, pottery, chip shop, kebab house, Chinese, Caribbean and traditional restaurants, pubs and cafes.

For travel there is a central railway station enabling direct access to six further narrow gauge steam railways, and the entire coast line from the Lleyn Peninsula to Aberystwyth. There is also a reasonable bus service as well.

If you visit at the right time and something is on at Harlech theatre/cinema, an evening there spent lounging in the bar/cafe first is a must, especially if a good sunset is likely. There is even some motorsport with rally stages at Llanbedr and banger racing on the flatlands.

Just in case all this isn't varied enough there is even a legitimate nudist beach down the road at Dyffryn, very pleasant we are told! Oops I nearly forgot, Harlech even has its own Rock festival this year, June the 13th.

“Wonderful Visit to Harlech, North Wales”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2017

We stayed at Ty Mefus as a family of 8 and it was just perfect for our first visit to this part of Wales. Harlech is a very quiet town but the castle and the views are just so iconic, I only wished I had brought my golf clubs to play at Royal St David's links which looked superb. The beach was amazing and we were so blessed with wonderful weather over the weekend. The house has a lovely terrace which is a real sun trap and although there is not a lot in the town you can walk down to a nice bar/restaurant that has amazing views across the bay.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review, Royal St Davids golf course is indeed highly regarded, with one Nigel Mansell certainly a fan.! As it is partly on the beach dune system, it is playable pretty much all year.

“Family break away”

Reviewed 12 Feb 2017

Fantastic break away, house was immaculate and well kept by both Trevor and Sue. Lovely and quiet and loads of nice stretches of beach Highly recommended ,and would agree with some previous reviews this is one of Wales best kept secrets Thanks again Trevor and Sue we will be back again.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review! We are glad that you found Harlech/Llanfair beaches, even when the mountains have snow on them! Sue says 'thank you' for the vote of confidence in her skills. Trevor and Sue.

“Location great, house has everything you will need...thanks!”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2016

The house is in a fab location - we had a wonderful weekend stay - beds comfy (personally only tested 1 but no grumbles from the other guests!) we visited Harlech castle on the Sunday....well done Wales....free entry as a result of the footy win the night before! Ordered a taxi for a return trip in the evening to Portmeirion for a delightful meal at Castle Deudreuth... £40 return.......great service from the card left in the house for guests!

Owner's reply: Thank you Nicki and family, and thanks for the tip about Harlech Castle, we will visit ourselves if Wales progress any further in the Euros! You are welcome to return to explore further later in the year, if you wish. Sue.
