This lovely cottage is hidden away down a quiet road in the village of Harbertonford with a stunning enclosed garden with a babbling brook at the end of it. The village is a great place to stay for exploring Devon and the South Hams. The river Dart with its superb riverside pubs and the market town of Totnes with its excellent shops, restaurants and cafes are both just a few minutes drive.
Dartmouth and Dittisham, a great spot for sailing, crabbing, boat trips or visiting Agatha Christie's house Greenways, are a few minutes drive. Many of South Devon's best beaches, such as the award winning Blackpool sands and Beesands are also within a short drive. The open moorland of Dartmoor is also close by.
The cottage has been completely refurbished to a very high standard and is tastefully furnished throughout. There is a comfortable sitting room with a three seater and a two seater sofa, a wood burning stove, Sharp flat-screen TV, DVD player with a selection of DVDs and wi-fi.
The sitting room leads through to the fully fitted kitchen. The high spec kitchen has granite worktops, Bosch appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer and an induction hob). There's also a great Mocca Master coffee machine, a Dualit toaster and a microwave. The kitchen is provided with plenty of good quality white china, glasses and saucepans.
You dine in the very bright conservatory just off the kitchen or if it's warm in the enclosed, private but very sunny garden.
Upstairs there are two double bedrooms. The larger, ensuite bedroom has ziplink beds which separate into two singles. The high-spec bathroom has a walk in shower. The second family bathroom also has a shower and great attention to detail including lights which come on automatically when you walk into it.
There is an excellent local shop 5 minutes walk from the cottage that sells just about everything you're likely to need. Otherwise there's a supermarket and lots of great food shops in nearby Totnes. Unfortunately the local pub in Harbertonford is disappointing but some of the best pubs in Devon are close by. The Church House Inn in Harberton is excellent as are the Dart Riverside pubs: the Waterman's Arms, The Maltsters and the Ferry Boat Inn. Plus of course plenty more to try in nearby Totnes.

For a market town of just 6000 people, Totnes has an awful lot going on. There is a big live music scene. Dartington Hall and Schumacher College are just a couple of miles up the road and people visit Totnes from all over the world because it is is the first transition town see www.transitiontowntotnes.org/. It is also within a short drive of South Devon's loveliest beaches and is only a few minutes drive from Dartmoor too.
The Devon region
Devon is a great area to visit known for its beautiful hilly countryside, including Dartmoor, stunning beaches and characteristic narrow, high sided Devon lanes. It also has lots of fabulous old pubs many dating back 500 years or more.
Ashburton is a great place to stop off en-route to Keepers Cottage It has great shops including a great kitchen shop, an excellent deli and several antique shops. There are also some great cafes, pubs and restaurants.

"Nice compact house"
Very nice house. Clean and we'll furnished . As stated in the book when you arrive the decking is very slippery when wet but they are aware of this and are looking for a solution. We'll equipped and beds were really comfortable.
