Description from owner

Description

Built in 1791 Happisburgh lighthouse is the only privately run working lighthouse in the country. The cottages were originally built to house the keepers and did so for the next 160 years.
These days they have found a new role as an iconic symbol of Norfolk and pictures of the lighthouse and cottages have featured in many magazines including Vogue, the drama Kingdom (with Stephen Fry) and a recent award winning short film and much, much more.

The cottage is far enough away from the village to give the peace and quiet to allow you to recharge your batteries. but also has plenty of good local pubs and restaurants nearby

“beautiful cottage”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2012

Fantastic cottage, with spectacular views. Very warm & cosy - very unimpressed with the local pub(the hill-house)would not go there again..a short drive to the lighthouse pub in walcott was much nicer.. Would love to stay here again & would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing, peaceful break.

“peaceful, delightful, unusual, unique, a must-do!”

Wonderful week. Weather stunning. This place is a little piece of heaven. Great day trips to Cromer (for the parade and Carnival including the Red) Arrows, Great Yarmouth (seaside tackiness at its best - Miniature World great fun) Bickling Hall and Felbrigg both excellent National Trust Properties. Lovely evening meal at the local pub too. Good cycling around as well. We'd love to come back! The lighthouse is only open on Sundays 11-4 so make sure you are there for a visit. Great views and great story to go with it. Lovely welcome too - nice friendly touches (lovely bottle of wine etc - thanks guys!)

“Quirky, pretty, cute, quaint, perfect!!!”

We stayed at the cottage as a group of 6. On arrival, the first thing you notice is the amazing, well maintained Lighthouse, and then the 360 degree panorama. The cottage has three spacious bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, and a fantastic lounge with lots of space, and games provided. In the mornings we enjoyed breakfast on the ample decking overlooking the sea, and enjoyed a lovely BBQ (provided) on sat evening as the sunset over fields of barley :) (so pretty)!!! The cottage is a 5 minute walk to the sea where we enjoyed a bracing morning swim, and a game of volleyball! The cottage, the setting, and the atmosphere were all perfect! The Hill House pub in the village was also well worth a visit! We will definitely be going back, and have already sent friends the information!

“Lovely quaint cottage in peaceful location”

We had a lovely weekend stay at the lighthouse keepers cottage. The cottage was perfect for us - spacious, well equiped and in a tranquil setting. The cottage had everything we needed from kitchen equipment to games and a wii computer console! We were extremely lucky to have warm sunny weather, we had a lovely walk on Happisburgh beach and around the village. The welcome gifts of wine, bread and milk were appreciated and Kim was easily contactable during the booking process. Thank you for a lovely stay.

“A unique cottage in a fantastic location”

We had a fantastic holiday at the Lighthouse Keepers Cottage. The property is very unusual being not only attached to a lighthouse but with an interesting layout. Location was great with plenty to do for the kids (3&5), crabbing on Cromer pier was a highlight. The photographs on the website don't do the property justice it's amazing. One of the best holidays we have had.
