They share the indoor heated swimming pool, children's play area, trampoline and games room with L266, L267 and L135, and each has its own patio. The cottages have interconnecting doors and the dining area in one cottage can seat 12 people - useful for one large party. Many original features have been kept: beams, exposed stone, sash windows and large fireplaces.

East Bickleigh has large living/dining room with wood floor (rugs), beams, TV/DVD, big fireplace with woodburner and step up to dining area. Slate-floored fitted kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, freezer, larder fridge, 7-burner gas hob/electric oven) with original well, safely retained with glass top as an interesting feature. French windows and steps up to the patio. Loo. Upstairs (stairgates), three bedrooms – a double with en suite shower-room (suite), a twin with large en suite bathroom (suite with huge Victorian bath plus hand-shower), and step up to a large room open to the rafters with 5' double plus two singles, en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath) and French windows leading to step up (handrail) to patio (table/chairs, barbecue) and grassed area.

The Devon region

The South Hams: southernmost Devon; between the river Dart and river Tamar and south of Dartmoor, lush farmland and wooded river valleys turning to beautiful estuaries, its coast very beautiful and remarkably well preserved – sandy beaches and mighty cliffs between those estuaries, amazingly little sprawling modern ugliness. Inland too, away from main roads, it remains surprisingly peaceful.

Among special coastal places are Dartmouth; sheltered Blackpool Sands; Slapton's long curve of pebble beach and nature reserve lagoon; the cliffs about Start Point and Prawle Point, Bolt Head and Bolt Tail; East Portlemouth's beach and Salcombe's location and views; Thurlestone proving that family seaside places don't need to be brash; Bigbury's huge sands and the fun of getting to Burgh Island; waterside, oak-wood-sheltered Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers; many others, less easy of access, are for you to discover.

Kingsbridge and Totnes, both old, attractive and small, are the towns at the area's heart; Plymouth – the West Country's biggest town, with Naval base, ferry port, theatre, cinemas, history, Hoe (great views) and Barbican (where the life is) – is on the area's edge. Dartington Hall is an arts centre (films, plays, music, dance) with lovely gardens. Pleasure cruisers ply the Kingsbridge estuary and Dart and Tamar rivers.

Halwell: small village (church, good food pub, filling station for basic supplies, bus route) in wooded farmland on the A381 between Totnes (town), 7 miles, and Kingsbridge, 6. Dartmouth (town) and the sea/beach at Blackpool Sands, 7 miles. Dartmouth Golf and Country Club (indoor pool), 3 miles; also, leisure park (activities, animals). Central South Hams base.
