Breaday Gill History

Breaday Gill forms part of a courtyard conversion of traditional stone farm buildings at North Farm, Silpho; a small hamlet tucked away at the south-eastern corner of the North York Moors National Park. Historically the part of the barn which is now Breaday Gill was used variously as a cow byre, stalls and stabling and latterly as a milking parlour and dairy. Most of the limestone cobbles outside the cottage are original (although they may have been relaid and replaced over the 200 years or so since the barn was first built!).

And now...

The building has been meticulously renovated and converted for use as a luxury holiday escape. Original features such as the stone walls have been restored with lime mortars and original timbers including roof trusses and purlins have been retained wherever possible. The building has been converted using environmentally conscious materials and techniques and is designed to be a comfortable and healthy space with a low carbon footprint. Underfloor-heated polished concrete floors, solid oak kitchen, marble wall tiles in the two luxury bathrooms and the latest design in scandinavian woodburner are just a few of the design features which combine to make this a holiday cottage for the 21st Century.

The owners have put their hearts and souls into this unique conversion and their love for contemporary and mid-century design is reflected in every detail. Highlights include the Robert Heritage rosewood dining table, the Archie Shine sideboard and the wonderfully comfortable super-king size Molteni bed in the master bedroom.

Hackness

Breaday Gill is at the south-eastern corner of the North York Moors, set within the moors, valleys and rolling farmland of the National Park. There are wonderful walks and cycling right from the doorstep. The coast is just 4 miles away by car (less as the crow flies) and we are perfectly situated for exploring Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby. York and the 2017 City of Culture, Hull, are about an hour away.
