The Cornwall region
Cornwall has been one of the most popular holiday destinations in Englandfor a long time. As a result there is a flourishing tourist industry providing a wide range of accommodation options including camp sites, caravan parks and cornish holiday cottages to luxury hotels, bed & breakfast and guest houses.
Because of its isolated position, Cornwall has maintained much of its own identity in traditions and culture. It also possesses distinctive physical features in its peninsular form, long jagged coastline, granite moorlands and temperate climate. Despite a past history of mining, over a century of growth as a holiday destination and some more recent development of manufacturing industry, Cornwall remains essentially rural in character and unspoilt in nature. Many Rosamunde Pilcher books are filmed locally.
Godrevy House is in the seaside village of Gwithian that is close to the towns of Hayle, St Ives and Portreath. The accommodation is a short walk from Gwithian Beach and the three mile stretch of golden sand that makes up St Ives Bay.
Gwithian has a 15th Century Church, thatched cottages and and popular pub that serves excellent lunches and evening meals. Nearby is a local nature reserve which makes an excellent starting point for beach or clifftop walks and the popular National Trust area of Godrevy Point.
Hayle, our nearest town, has a choice of supermarkets and restaurants together with Tourist attractions. St.Ives with its narrow streets and busy harbour can be reached by car, bus and by a beautiful cliff-top train journey.
Surfing is now a popular pastime on the local beach so why not have a surfing lesson with Gwithian Academy of Surfing. Surfboard and wetsuit rental is also available and guests are offered a 20% discount there.
Within a short drive is the open air Minack Theatre, St Michaels Mount and theTate Gallery in St.Ives. Paradise Park in Hayle with its popular daily feeding of birds and animals and the RSPB Site at Hayle causeway are very close by. The Eden Project in St.Austell is now a world wide renowned attraction and well worth a visit.
This is a wonderful part of Cornwall and the perfect area to base your Cornish holiday.
