Important Note There is a resident cat at this property.Gustavia Hill GUS is above all a charming villa which has succeeded in reconciling the proportions of the small traditional St. Barth villa with a very contemporary look and feel. Situated on the part of Gustavia called La Pointe on the ocean side, the house looks out on the Caribbean, and has the double advantage of being completely quiet, and at the same time being near to the harbour with its lively activities shops, restaurants, and of course the spectacle of the most beautiful yachts in the world. Decorated in warm colors and wood with antique furniture and objects brought back from the owners travels, the rooms give a feeling of calm and serenity. In the dining room the large teak table from India can seat up to eight. The fully equipped kitchen, made of wood and stainless steel, seems to be ready to set sail. A small, more intimate and private room serves as an office and library during the warmer hours of the day. It is also a good space for listening to music or watching TV. The bathroom with its spacious shower looks out on the patio. The bedroom is decorated in delicate shades of grey and white offset by the English mahogany furniture. It looks out on the patio and has a quiet and peaceful feeling. The patio, with its hammock and palm trees caressed by the trade winds, is the ideal place for a siesta or for stargazing after sunset. From the large terrace on the ocean side one can see all the surrounding islands St. Martin, Saba and St. Kitts. From here one can watch spectacular sunsets, and observe the sailing boats gently come back to harbour. An outside staircase gives direct access to a second terrace which directly overhangs the water. That is the place for sunbathing, between the sky and the bluegreen sea. Here one feels naturally drawn to meditation. A new plunge pool completed for Winter 2008 season has been added and it is suspended in the rocks down from lower terrasse with 3 steps and there is bench to sit in the water and enjoy the view. The soul of the house is also its little cat Ti Gris, who arrived on the premises the first day that work started on the villa. He is gentle, affectionate and independent. He usually sleeps in the daytime, hunts at night, and appreciates being petted from time to time.

The St. Barthelemy region

St Barts, known as Saint Barthelemy officially and simply as Saint-Barth to the locals, is eight square miles of paradise in the north eastern corner of the Caribbean arc. Not far from either St Kitts or Anguilla, both of which can be seen on the horizon.

In contrast to its formerly British neighbouring islands, St Barts remains resolutely French and 100% part of the French Republic, with all the emphasis on style, fashion and cuisine that that entails.

Discovered by Colombus in 1493 and then again in 1957 by the Rockefellers, St Barts is famed as the playground of the rich and famous and at Christmas the global jet-set and glitterati can be found enjoying the 22 beaches and the 80 or so restaurants. The hotels on St Barts are small and the majority of the accommodation is in villas, of which we have the widest possible choice

Gustavia

Gustavia is the capital of St Barts. With a population of around 2000 it is a small town really, with a delightful port that manages to hold some of the most beautiful yachts on earth. Most of the villas in Gustavia are in walking distance of the port, restaurants and boutiques, however some of the hills, although small can be steep.Gustavia has the finest shopping to be had in the Caribbean, with Gucci, Dior, Cartier and many others.
