Description

Gurnard Marsh is an area on the north shore of Isle of Wight just to the west of Cowes. It is an ideal location for many different types of visitors including families, walkers and ramblers, cyclists and dinghy sailors. It has long been a popular holiday spot with rows of beach side chalets dating back to the 1920's, but now most of the old rail carriages and timber chalets have now gone. The replacement buildings are built to today's standards but designed to be in keeping with the beach side chalets they replaced.

“Perfect base for exploring the Island”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2015

This was out third stay in these houses. We like the location and the house is well furnished and comfortable.

“Fantastic”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2015

We had a lovely relaxing.week staying in Starboard. Brilliant location (very quiet and close to the sea) and excellent facilities (everything you could need ) including a large garden which was a sun trap. Free wifi with a strong and fast signal was a bonus. It was a lovely surprise to have several goodies left by the owner - milk, chocolates and Isle of Wight beer.! It was opposite the Little Gloster which was great for breakfast and the Waters Edge Cafe was only a short walk away. We will certainly be booking again next time we visit the Island.

“We'll be back!”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2015

A great home from home experience. Fantastic location next to the sea and a great restaurant and within walking distance of pubs and Cowes. Very well presented home with everything you could want. There was a lot of space and all home comforts. The special touches on arrival and good supply of basics was a real bonus that we weren't expecting.

“Awesomeness”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2015

We stayed with our 7 and 5 year-old kids in mid-August. Starboard was excellent accommodation. Spotless, much more spacious than we had expected, massive bonus of a decent back garden (ideal for a football-obsessed son), quiet location which was well-placed for getting out to the west of the island. A generally mre chilled feeling than Cowes where we had stayed previous two years. Nice touches like local beer waiting on the kitchen table for us (me!). And good to know Carl was only down the road if any probs (not that there were any). Should note the bridge over Gurnard Luck just down the road from Starboard is excellent for crabbing. We got seventeen in two 20min sessions. Kids loved it. And should note the sunsets, which are amazing to watch from the front veranda. All in all excellent.

“Ideal accomodation for families”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2015

This is a lovely well kept 2 bed roomed house with enclosed garden. It made staying with children hassle free, we felt like we had had a real holiday as we could all relax .The property was clean and safe and provided all the essentials and more needed for our stay. It was a brilliant base to explore the island from, the places our children enjoyed going to most were the steam railway, the open top bus( Downs Breezer) and Ryde sea front, the Puckpool end had great play areas.

“Excellent accommodation in idyllic surroundings!”

Reviewed 24 May 2015

It was a very pleasant surprise for us, as we had booked the house last minute, just a day before we left for Isle of Wight. Carl was extremely helpful and easily accessible on phone and email. He also helped us with the ferry bookings and offered a discount. The house was a very clean and a cute little place with off road parking (a big thing for someone from London :) ). With 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and a lovely patio rear garden, it had all the mod coms needed for a relaxing stay including wifi and tele. The small bits and pieces used to decorate the house on the sea side theme made it an ideal holiday home. We really enjoyed our stay as it was just a stone's throw from the sea and had some beautiful views of the dinghies sailing and the sunset which is very famous as well. There was a nice restaurant just across the house which offered some fresh sea food (though a bit pricy but worth the money). Overall, we would definitely recommend Starboard as an excellent accommodation in a nice location on the north shore of Isle of Wight. Thank you so much for the lovely arrangements and we hope to return soon !!

“A great place to relax and enjoy”

Reviewed 5 May 2015

I booked Starboard for a long Bank Holiday weekend with my partner and his 8 year old daughter. I usually camp with family, but this time we decided to stay somewhere more weather resistant, and we certainly were not disappointed! Starboard is a beautiful house, well equipped, tastefully decorated, warm and welcoming. We were greeted with some Isle of Wight produce ( a lovely touch) and even a fresh pint of milk. The location is great for any activities you have planned whilst in the island, and there are places nearby to eat if you don't want to go far! We had great meals at The Woodvale (10 minute walk) and the Little Gloster (directly opposite). We were all very happy with our stay-the youngest member of our party wanted to "stay forever"! We are definitely hoping to come and stay again soon!

“Excellent house close to the beach”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2015

An excellent well equiped house close to the beach. It was our second visit and we will go back again.

“Excellent holiday at Starboard”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2014

We love the location - very quiet and peaceful. The amenities at Starboard are superb, light airy rooms kept to a very high standard. Great place to come back to after a full day exploring the pretty Island Nice being so close to Cowes to experience the yachting buzz and near enough to walk to. The owner Carl made us very welcome and we will be returning.

“Lovely place with everything that you need”
