A break away from the busy demands of everyday life, a trip on a luxury narrowboat on the scenic and quiet River Wey is the ideal solution. Very well appointed with granite worktops and a belfast sink in the galley, plenty of seating, a comfortable double bed with memory foam mattress, heating by radiators with the addition of a woodburner for cosy evenings in. Electric flush toilet and shower. The River Wey, owned and managed by the National Trust, has the best of both worlds with rural areas and plenty of shops and entertainment in Guildford and Godalming. Enjoy meals in the riverside pubs, try a spot of fishing, or look out for herons and kingfishers. RHS Wisley Gardens is within easy walking distance and there are theatres, restaurants and historical sites and plenty of shopping in Guildford.

Very Good

“Thoroughly lovely water bourne weekend”

Our first canal boat trip and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We only had 2 nights but it was enough to get a taster. We headed north from the pick-up point towards London and got as far as Pyrford Lock before returning. It was freezing but the sun and spring trees made up for it and inside the boat was very warm with the heating. The wood burner fire wasn't needed for warmth but we enjoyed it anyway. We were 2 adults and children aged 15 and 12. We expected them to miss wifi but they threw themselves into managing all the locks and moorings. There was plenty of room for us all and it was great that all towels and bedding are provided as well as a small welcome hamper. The boat interior is immaculate and there is everything you need. Julie and Ray gave us a very relaxed intro to handling the boat. It does take some concentration but is do-able if you have the confidence to take it slow and calm. Best of all is the peace and being in nature, once past the A3 vicinity.

“Fantastic experience on the unique Wey navigation”

After a helpful boat navigation and lock tutorial (we were complete novices!) from Ray and Julie, our crew of two pootled off for our 4 day break to experience the delights of this beautiful stretch of water. After some minor navigating difficulties (a small matter of a grounding!) plus a little more patient telephone coaching from Ray, we became accustomed to the benefits of the very helpful bow thrusters. The boat itself was spotlessly clean and was beautifully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Who knew you could fit so much in a small space, and certainly more storage than I was expecting. A fascinating, tranquil few days with the ever changing scenery being a feast for the eyes, we have never seen so many dragonflies. During our short break the weather was fantastic (if a little too hot for all that physical lock work!) and we got up to Coxes Lock at Addlestone, then returned and travelled to just north of Godalming before returning Stepping Stones to its home mooring. We particularly enjoyed stopping on Guildford Meadows one evening, walking across the Ferry Bridge and having a yummy pizza at the Ship Inn at St Catherines after working up a major appetite during the day. It's funny how you get a totally different perspective on a town when travelling by water, quite fascinating. Anyway, it's not very often you finish a holiday with such a sense of exhilaration and achievement, so it will last long in our memories. I would thoroughly recommend Stepping Stones for a really uniqueholiday, and also thank Ray and Julie for sharing their lovely boat with us.

“A gentle adventure on the Wey”

We really enjoyed our short break aboard Stepping Stones. It was our first canal boat holiday and were glad that owners Ray and Julie showed us the ropes and took us through the first lock. The boat was very comfortable and well equipped for the four of us. There was plenty to keep the kids (aged 9 and 12) busy working the locks and everyone we met was friendly and full of helpful advice for us novices. We had great weather, the ever changing scenery was beautiful (and/or interesting) and the wildlife was fantastic. We would throughly recommend this holiday to anyone who is looking for a gentle adventure!

“Sublime - even for the ultimate novice!”

From the moment you are met by the owners, Julie and Ray, to the first lesson, to the moment you first "fly solo", to thinking, "I can do this!", to parallel parking for the first time and taking in the utter beauty of the landscape, this will be a holiday you will not forget! It is absolutely idyllic! Plentiful pubs, prosecco as you cruise, parking up for the evening and catching a few decent perch before falling asleep in the most comfortable beds ever! Seriously, this is the real deal! My friend and I (yes, a crew of just 2 - easy) agreed that each month of the year would have it's own attributes. We travelled in August but can easily envisage Christmas aboard or in early Spring. Fear not the locks. As the first day dawned and the full realisation that we were about to go up and down locks set in, we were trepidatious, it has to be said. However, in a nutshell: piece o' cake. Think it through, take it slowly and it'll soon be second nature. Nothing is left uncovered on-board - I can't think of a single utensil or device that you'd need to take (apart from an iPhone 6 adapter for the docking station), Final note for Julie and Ray - thank you both so much for the opportunity, the occasional 'phone call and for building our confidence so casually that we could handle this 62ft beauty. “Well equipped and excellently prepared”

Well equipped and excellently prepared for our stay. The bathroom, kitchen and bedroom were all a real pleasure to use. Absolutely everything we could need was provided. Perfect telephone assistance from Ray to get over our grounding on day one. Other than that the week was perfect (including the weather). Will definitely want to recommend her to others.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Julie (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
