The house proved enormously popular last year ! ......
with flexible holiday bookings , with a minimum of 4 nights all year round .
( except Peak Season which is 7 nights miniumum )
Situated in the gorgeous white village of Gualchos , only 5 kms from the sea, with fantastic views of the Med. and mountains !
In a region called the ' Costa Tropical ' it is otherwise known as the Granada Coast....and is very popular with the Spanish and Granadians, as it's only 1 hour approx, due south !
But now there are a quite a few ' ex-pats ' living there.....or owning holiday homes, so coming here regularly.
The house has been totally reformed , deliberately retaining a balance of authentic rustic Andalucian style with all the modern touches.
Metre thick walls keep the house cool in the summer....and warm in the ' winter ' .
Traditionally windows are small....but I had fitted larger ones so it's light inside.
You can always close the shutters if you want to keep the sun out !
Enjoy the 2 terraces....1 so private ( the Jacuzzi patio ) clothes are optional....no-one is going to see :)
In the summer heat, you may just want to use it at air temperature....about 28 C...so pretty warm, but a nice cool off !
The larger rooftop terrace is perfect for sunbathing or dining , and has stunning views of the sea and mountains to both 3 sides .
WiFi internet is available in the house, and there is a special internet centre ( free ) only 100 metres away, in the Plaza .
Free welcome pack is provided free for 7 nights of more !
( The house is best suited to 4 persons for reasons of privacy and access to the bathrooms, although there are 3 other potential ´bedrooms ´hence with one family group 5 persons is possible )

The Andalucia region
The Costa Tropical ....
This area has Ex-pats, but is far less ' over-run ' with Brits or others, but therein lies it's appeal.
This is where you will find a corner of real Spain.
Where every bar serves ' tapas ' ( little plates of free food )
Where meals are cheap and substantial , albeit of high quality...all good ' Mediterranean Diet ' Food.
Where the older folks still take siestas, and then chat with their neighbours , sitting in the narrow ( almost car free ) streets
until late at night.
Where you will find a real welcome from friendly people .
A village where families have lived for years , generations after generations.
A way of life that is so far removed from the hussle of UK cities, the peace and quiet, may come as a huge surprise.
If you get time.....do go to Granada... Granada City a must see , is the Alhambra Palace ( the winter home of the Kings of the Moors )
It is one of Spain's and Europe's treasures....a world heritage site.
the history is palpable....the shops are amazing .....the Moorish quarter ( the Albacyn ) is unique
and like a Morrocan Souk....go to a Flamenco club.,..the nightlife is superb, and the Bodegas ( wine bars with the barrels ) reknowned.
Plus of course, you need a good 4 or 5 hours to look around the Alhambra.....it is that mind-blowing !
It's very easy to fall into the relaxed way of life.....but if you want more highlights....within a short drive , everything from
waterparks to cinema's......Chinese restaurants to Argentinian steak houses....Superstores to chic boutiques...are all within a
short hop by car .
Gualchos has a real history, back to ,and before the Moors made the Kingdom of ' El-Andaluz '
Gualchos is a lively village with regular fiestas, all the servies you need to hand, and only 5kms from the beach resort of
Castell de Ferro ( 3500 people ) with lots of cafes, bars , restaurants ......and a couple of discos too !
It has a weekly saturday Market....more or less everything is on offer....and of course a selection of blue flag beaches.
However, you maybe surprised at just how much time you can happily spend in Gualchos alone
whilst only 650 people live there....it covers a large area, and has lots of great walks and hikes.....some easy, some harder.
There is a lot going on here , certainly enough to cater for daily or even weekly needs, depending on your ideas .
Gualchos enjoys a unique micro-climate....it get's hot ( but there is always a slight breeze ) , but it never gets cold !
and a short trip up to the moutains will reveal little villages and hamlets still as if time has stood still ....and 45 minutes or so
you are in the wonderful Alpujarras mountains ( Orgiva is the gateway and worth a stroll for sure ) but higher up are the villages
with flat topped roofs and a thriving pure wool rug making industry......and ceramics too.
But many visitors to Gualchos stay locally....and come back year after year.
It's way of life is tremendously appealing , and there are 2 restuarants of some note in the village .
The house is only 100 metres from the main square, bar, supermarket, 3 internet cafe choices , and in summer an Ice cream / bar
yet the property itself is in a pedestrian only tiny street ( 30 metres long ) where children can play safely indoors or out !
A bit more detail .........
Fresh bread can be bought daily at the village baker (panaderia) in Calle el Pan ( where they also drive down to the Coast , it is that good , or otherwise listen for the van horn ' beeping ' about 10.30 -11.30 every morning - as it drives around the village . ( you can also order bread / cakes etc for tomorrow )
At the main plaza (square) in the centre of the village you find the Corviran Supermercado where you can by almost everything, a fish market, the Plaza bar , a free internet centre , and a fountain ( ' Fuente ' ) for clean drinking water. ( it is pure snow waters from the High Sierras ! )
At the Plaza bar, if you ask ( in advance ) the owners Miguel or Carmen, will cook you a ' Menu del Dia ' ( Meal of the Day ) which is great food and for 3 courses and a free drink , cheap too !....
Or if you fancy a single large plate of a tapa....order for a ' racion ' of whatever you fancy ( well, almost ! ) Meats / fish dishes / huge mixed salads / paella / and many more .
In summer the ' Helado ' ( ice creams and cocktails - quite chic actually ! ) bar is also open. Also all year is another bar at the eastern of the village called Alberos - with inside and outside shaded and open spaces with a play area and with stupendous views - for late night drinks and often tapas too , plus games .
On the outskirts of Gualchos is "Barbacoa Miguel" - ( only a few minutes walk from my house - which is a lovely outdoor / indoor Restaurant where food is cooked over an open fire ( a la plancha ..like a big bbq cooked over hot wood embers . It is my favourite place , bar none , and has a fantastic menu . It is only open in summer from end June to September generally . ( The plaza bar can tell you when it's open )
At the opposite end of Gualchos about 500 meters up the road towards Motril / Lujar is a very good restaurant, "La Ventera". (Closed at Mondays). It is very fine dining , though not that expensive ..
The village also has a doctor's surgery and a small pharmacy. ( both just off the main Plaza )

"A Gorgeous House in Spectacular Southern Spain and Everything One Could Hope for in a Host"
Found this spot online while in Ireland travelling and searching for the right spot in southern Spain. The town of Gualchos is simply beautiful, tranquil too, while still offering all the necessary essentials. The beach is only a few minutes drive down to Castel de Ferro, a larger sea-side town with more restaurants and shopping. Malaga and Granada, are also quite close for those moments when and if, you need the full-on big-city adventure or urban shopping at it's best. The home itself is very well appointed and surprisingly, quite a bit nicer than the pictures were able to indicate. The hotub is a nice touch for sure. Everything was perfectly finished to an impressive standard and very comfortable. It was more than spacious enough for myself and my large greyhound (or a group of 2-4 adults I'd imagine) while being delightfully cozy at the same time. There was nothing I could have wanted that the kitchen or home didn't have an abundance of. My favorite part - the views from the terrace are nothing short of breathtaking. Take note: you can also count on immediate email replies and abnormally helpful service from the host Andy. In hindsight, he was one of the things I most appreciated about this rental property. Although living in another part of southern Spain himself, he was always going way beyond the call of duty with helpful information on anything I was searching for or interested in. He made sure to check in personally shortly after my arrival and again toward the end of my stay, although, the next door neighbor Juan Louis and his wife Maria are the key holders and terrific people who also were keen to help in any way they could. All in all I'd highly recommend this gorgeous home and fantastic host to anyone looking for a taste of southern Spain's best! Chris

"Lovely house - great views - charming village - what's not to like?"
Just got back from staying at this lovely house in Gualchos. Andy the owner was really helpful before we left with plenty of information on the house, village and things to do and dealt with our enquiries very promptly and efficiently. The house itself is on three levels giving us various relaxation options - quiet time downstairs, shade and hot-tub on the middle floor, sun trap upstairs. We utilised all! The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need for catering for yourself. Big fridge for food, small fridge for beer, wine and water (still think we got that the wrong way round). We found the bedroom comfortable and utilised both bathrooms (it's a mood thing). The middle terrace tended to be where we would hit after a day at the beach or out sightseeing - a nice bit of shade to enjoy a beer or the hot-tub to relax further. The roof terrace is very private...and very hot! We enjoyed some nice evenings up top with a glass of wine watching the sun go down. Gualchos itself is very traditional and very quiet. It's 45 seconds uphill to the main square and the centre of the village. There is a cafe bar serving great tapas with every drink, another bar / ice cream parlour which is a bit more upbeat but open less often and a well stocked mini mart open mornings and evenings. Sometimes though it was just nice to wander about the narrow streets and enjoy the tranquillity. Driving around the inner village streets is an experience too! So narrow but enjoyed the experience and waved to everyone who had to step out of my way (it is that narrow!) There are plenty of resorts within a 45 minutes drive - we worked our way out from Castell de Ferro (10 minutes away) and just kept stopping at the next resort. Many of the beaches are shingle / pebble but the sea is really clear (if a little cold!). All in all we had a great holiday and the house was a great base in a lovely and tranquil location. Loved it thanks.
