The Andalucia region

Directly from the house start short and also longer walks to explore the local mountains.A bit further on you will pass through a small gorge and then come to Guajar Alto, the smallest of the 3 Guajar villages.Wander along the different muletracks past and through meditarrenean Olive-Orange-Avocado and Chirimoyagroves.Enjoy the almond blossom that starts in February and succumb to the perfume of the orangeblossom(El Azahar) in March.

Watch the farmers in the plantingseason or at harvesttime. The nearest beach is 20 mins away and a little bit further you will find still rather untouched and romantic coves.Granada with its famous Alhambra, its charming,Moorish Albayzin and its quaint old town is only 1 hr away. The cozy and original villages of the Alpujarra with its cristalclear streams, refreshing riverpools and the snowcovered 3000m mountains always invite you to hike and explore and are only 45 mins away.Come, relax and enjoy!!

The 700 year era of Moorish-arabic culture has left its traces all over Andalucia. The mountainterraces with its mentioned acequias(waterflows) surround the whole valley. Many of the cultivated produce stem back to the Moors. This influence you will also taste in the local cuisine, the nearly daily eaten migas with sardines or papas a la pobre f.e.The famous airdried ham of the Alpujarra, the different mountaincheeses or the varied fish and stew dishes.

All these specialities very often you can sample as a (free) tapa that comes with your(alcoholic)drink.Start you day with a café con leche up in the bar and experience like this the local coffee culture.Ask us about the local handycraft and we´ll point out workshops that make pottery, woolweavings, leatherweavings, leatherclothing or woodcraft.Enjoy Andalucian mucic and experience the bubbly happiness of the locals, who can´t sit still when they hear a Flamenco!OLÉ!

Guajar Faraguit

There are plenty of activities in the area. Ask us about: fishing for example or swimming, diving or windsurfing, biking or mountainbiking (also with guides), hiking (with or without guides), horseriding, paragliding, yogacourses or even flamenco courses. Or learn Spanish!!
Only 20 mins from LA CUEVA or 40 mins from LA RUEDA, down on the coast, we have a great golfcourse with a magnificent setting, between Motril and Salobreña. Golf with the sea in your back and the snowcovered 3000m mountains of the Sierra Nevada in front of you.In Salobeña another golfcourse will open soon and yet another halfway to Granada.
In the wintermonth you really are lost for choice.Or you go down to the empty beaches and stroll along the sea or you go to Granada to soak up some culture and do some shopping or you go up to the Sierra Nevada to go skiing. Actually you might do the lot in one single day!!! The skiarea of the Siera Nevada is the most modern skiarea in Spain and the one with the most sunhours in Europe.
The nearest beaches are 20 mins away for LA CUEVA and from half an hour away for LA RUEDA. Salobreña, Almuñecar, La Herradura or Nerja to name only a few. Between La Herradura and Nerja are a couple of unspoilt and very private little coves, bring your picnic and enjoy the tranquility. Enquire about diving in the diving centres of Marina del Este or La Herradura.
The quaint and original villages of the Alpujarra, with their cristalclear streams, their waterholes, suitable for bathing and even swimming and their nearly all year round snowcovered mountains of over 3000m always want to be explored and best by foot.

Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira are the main villages and deserve at least one day of your stay. In any of these old Moorish villages you can start short strolls or beautifully long hikes.
Trevelez with 1480m above sealevel is the highest lived in village in Spain and is famous for its airdried ham.

Granada is a absolutely wonderful and romantic town, which can easily be explored by foot. This town deserves at least one day, if your stay is longer, better 2 days.

Wander about the narrow alleyways of the old Moorish quarter of the ALBAYÇIN, which lies on top of a hill opposite the Alhambra and therefore enjoys breathtaking views across to the famous Alhambra with the mighty Sierra Nevada as a backdrop. From here stroll down into the city and to the cathedral. On the way sip a cupper in one of the oriental teahouses and absorb the Moorish flair of this beautiful town.
This town with it´s classy boutiques and wonderful little shops is surely inviting you to do some shopping.

But the highlight of it all is a visit of the famous ALHAMBRA, a real MUST, even if your stay is short.

Nearly at all times it is adviceable though to book tickets in advance to avoid queueing. We can do that for you here, but maybe you´d even better do it from home before leaving, to avoid disappointment.
