Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The Old Town of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is the medieval part of the city. Together with the 18th-century New Town, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has preserved its medieval plan and many Reformation-era buildings. One end is closed by Edinburgh Castle and the main artery, the Royal Mile, leads away from it, down to Holyrood Palace and the ruined Holyrood Abbey. Narrow closes (alleyways), often no more than a few feet wide, lead downhill on either side of the main spine in a herringbone pattern. Other notable places include the Scottish Parliament Building, the General Assembly Hall of the Church of Scotland, the Royal Museum of Scotland, Surgeons' Hall, the University of Edinburgh, and numerous underground streets and vaults.

Greyfriars

The flat overlooks Greyfriar's Kirkyard which is the graveyard for many famous Scots including George Heriot founder of the school next door to Greyfriar's, James Craig, designer of Edinburgh's New Town, and most notably Greyfriar's Bobby the loyal Skye Terrier who kept a 14 year vigil on his masters grave, both dog and his master, John Gray are bured here.
The Old Town is dominated by Edinburgh Castle which can be seen from the flat. The area has many cultural attractions and is home to many theatres, galleries and parks. The flat is near to the Meadows only 2 mins walk away. There is the Museum of Scotland just over the road which is both educational and entertaining.

“Greyfriars Attic Flat, Edinburgh”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2016

A beautiful, compact but well equipped property. Excellent location. Stairs are tough but well worth the effort for the views from the flat. Would stay again.

Thanks for your review, do please visit us again!

“Perfect location,”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2016

A great little property in the heart of Edinburgh, perfect for us exploring the city, great views from the 5th floor overlooking the city. Sloping ceilings however meant for anyone tall you could easily hit your head. (To be expected of course in an attic flat) definitely would go back here again

Thanks for your review and sorry about the ceilings! People were smaller in 1776!

“Superb flat in centre of Edinburgh”

Reviewed 27 Feb 2013

This flat is superb for a stay in Edinburgh. We know the city very well and have stayed several times, and this flat is the best we have experienced. Firstly, it is so central, everywhere is but a short walk! The layout is planned so well, meaning that the flat seems extremely spacious. It is extremely well-equipped and ideal for two people. We have already recommended it to a friend who is hoping to stay later in the year ... and we will certainly return. First class! However...you need to be fit to climb the stairs to the top floor to reach the flat...Worth it when you get there though!!!

“Lovely accomodation in central location”

We enjoyed a very pleasant 4 day stay here in April .The location perfect for exploring all the sights Edinburgh has to offer on foot . .An easy walk too from Waverley station. The bed was very comfortable and welcome after our excursions.Once in ,we settled down for the night and enjoyed the ambience. The guide books really helpful ,as well as a good selection of books to browse. Stunning views too so we lingered over breakfast every morning. Would love to come back!

“Fantastic flat in a fantastic location.”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2012

I grew up I in Edinburgh, but have lived in the States for over 20 years now. Since I moved abroad I have come back to visit family and friends at least once a year, if not twice. Until this year I would normally do a combination of crashing at Mum's for a few days, a cousins/friend's flat/house for another couple of days, and then a hotel for he balance of the stay so as to not wear out my welcome. That was good enough, but can get a bit tedious. Upon the recommendation of one of my brothers, I looked into renting a flat for the duration of my most recent trip. I shall never look back. Mr. Pinfield's flat was immaculate and located in a perfect location to reach any area of the city either by walking or catching a bus at nearby bus stop. Having a fridge and oven allowed me to purchase food for meals from the local market which saved me quite a bit of money as compared to having to normally eat/get a take away from somewhere. There are some very decent restaurants close by, a great number of pubs/clubs with both the Grassmarket and Cowgate within a stone's throw, and as importantly for me, two or three late night chip/kebab/pizza shops after a good night out with friends. I would highly recommend this flat (except for when I want to rent it again ;). Cheers.
