Description from owner

Description

The cottage is built of Cotwold stone in the local style of architecture, with gables and dormers. Decorated in very traditional style, it has a wood burning fire (we supply logs), Rayburn (Aga) cooker, and large garden. Yet renovated to include power showers, the latest central heating and other comforts.

It has been listed 4* Gold by the English Tourist Board for six years in a row.

The cottage has also been certified as suitable for families and cyclist holidays. Cycle hire is available and there is storage too.

The village, Great Rissington, is at the centre of many scenic walks. Guide books are in the cottage. It's a great place to laze about in, a haven of tranquility, or as a touring base right in the middle of the Cotswolds, and then relax in the village pub in the evenings! The pub, which serves great food, is just a 5 minute walk from the cottage.

Location description from owner

The England region

The Cotsowld Hills are famous worldwide as capturing the essence of English country scenes. Gentle hills and numerous villages, 100s of years old, built of warm stone, with friendly pubs tea rooms and antique shops, capture the atmosphere. Gentle country walks or strenuous hikes, riding, touring to see the villages and numerous stately homes are all part of the scene. In summer beautiful rolling fields stretch out, in winter cozy log and cola fires burn everywhere whilst the countryside is wrapped in gentle mist.

Great Rissington

Great Rissington dates back to at least 1086, it still has a population of a couple of hundred. The church is over 900yrs old, the village pub and green are several hundred years old. There are very few modern buildings. It is a sleepy, friendly village that is off the beaten track, some residents have lived here their whole lives. No tourist coaches here, just country life. Yet just 5 miles away are the famous centres of Stow-on the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Burford. All postcard-picture villages with fascinating antiques shops and long histories.

“Wonderful cottage and facilities”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2015

A wonderful cottage. Four of us had a bedroom each, there were two bathrooms / toilets and an additional shower room with toilet on the ground floor. This was very important to us as one of our friends only has one leg and this meant he had no stairs to climb. He had a downstairs bedroom and his own washroom facilities. Ample space in the kitchen which was fully equipped with everything you would need to stay and a large kitchen table. Large fridge / freezer. A lovely lounge which then led to another room with table and chairs. The best part for me was I originally spoke to Mark about the booking and explained we had a disabled person with us. Everything he said about the cottage and as listed on his website is true. No nasty surprises. Another added bonus was the Lamb pub some 5 minutes walk away. Lovely beer, food and staff. All in all a wonderful time in Great Rissington and would have no hesitation in recommending and we will be returning.

“Beautiful cottage, great location!”

I stayed at the cottage for a weekend with a group of friends for a wedding and it was perfect! Beautifully decorated, comfortable, with everything we needed. Lovely location with a great pub a few minutes walk away. Great price too, would definitely recommend. Just wish we could have stayed longer!

“Fabulous”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2014

Easterleigh Cottage is fabulous. A comfortable, very well equipped Cotswold stone cottage in a charming village near Bourton on the Water. Our family went for a short break - primarily to enjoy some peace and quiet and quality time together with our new baby. The cottage had everything we needed. It was very convenient to have two bathrooms, plus an additional toilet/shower downstairs. The local pub serves very good food - we ate there once - but most of the time we ate happily at the cottage, which has a full range of cooking equipment etc., plus the facility to eat outdoors in fine weather. The cottage was clean throughout and felt like home. There are plenty of walks nearby and numerous villages and places to explore. The owners provide comprehensive information on how to use all the household equipment and they recommend several local walks and places to visit. Easterleigh provides a welcome break away from the hustle and bustle of city life but, with a car, is within easy reach of all facilities. The lack of any shop in the village was not a problem - we loved it and were sorry to leave. The owner responded to our initial enquiry very quickly and all communication with him and his local agent went without a hitch. We hope to return.

“Idyllic, spacious, beautiful & practical Cotswolds cottage”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2014

We stayed at Easterleigh for a long family girly weekend at the beginning of July. We had an absolutely lovely time - the cottage was perfect and even despite a little bit of rain, we made use of the lovely garden and outside space. The photos really don't do enough justice to how spacious the cottage is - I'd envisaged it would be a bit more cosy inside, and whilst in the evening it really is lovely and cosy, during the day when warm outside, it isn't stuffy due to the space. The kitchen is very practical and has everything you'd need for a weekend or longer stay. Plenty of bathroom facilities for 7 guests and delightfully decorated to feel like a home away from home. It's really lovely and quiet in the local area, and 15 mins drive in either direction to neighbouring lovely towns of Burford or Bourton on the Water. We all came away wanting to club together and buy the property for our country retreat!

“It was everything we could have wished for.”

The cottage was excellent, well furnished and with lots of little touches, and was very clean..The furniture was comfortable , as were the beds. Beautiful bed linen. We particularly enjoyed eating outside on the garden dining suite. The garden was good, and had plenty of enclosed space for children to play safely. The cottage is in a very peaceful village, which has a good atmosphere, and is situated within walking distance of a pub which serves good ales and food. Altogether, we all agreed it was the best cottage we have stayed in, and we go to a cottage every year for more than ten years. at least. Thank you, we may go back!

Wow, couldn't ask for better!

“Brilliant - Highly reccmmended”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2014

Loved it!! The cottage looks idyllic from the outside and the interior decor and facilities are every bit as good. Facilities are comprehensive and excellent quality, everything we could imagine had been covered. The owner is a pleasure to deal with and responds promptly, We particularly loved the upstairs bedroom in the extension which has it's own adjacent bathroom. The property is set in a small beautiful village with a local pub but still with easy access to larger local towns.

“Cotswold Cottage”

We have just spent three days in this beautiful cottage situated in an idyllic village. We visited many of the surrounding villages which were most interesting. The cottage was well appointed and comfortable situated in beautiful English countryside

It is a very special village, not touristy, but with facilities and lots nearby, and the full time residents are really nice!
