The East Anglia region

Both Norfolk and Suffolk are easily reached from London and their beauty and interest make them perfect destinations for a short break, a long weekend or a longer family holiday.

Norfolk is a county greatly dominated by water – whether it is the endless sandy beaches of the coast or the waterways of the Norfolk Broads. Historic houses, market towns and the tall spires of 'wool' churches punctuate the gently undulating countryside, where huge tracts of heathland and forest contrast with richly cultivated areas. The City of Norwich beckons the visitor with its 900-year old cathedral, its Normal castle and enormous open market.

Suffolk is predominantly agricultural, with ancient and beautiful market towns such as Bury St Edmunds and Lavenham to visit, and beautiful villages where the houses are decorated with the elaborate plasterwork unique to the county. An ideal county for walking, cycling or horse-riding, and one where car expeditions are always rewarding, ending up at some delightful pub, tracking down a haunted house, beachcombing or simply admiring the watermills and gentle landscapes immortalized by John Constable.

Great Hockham

The Old Vicarage is a square, Georgian, pale brick Norfolk holiday house situated in very extensive grounds. It has a walled garden with large borders, a parterre, a small arboretum and paved terraces with garden furniture on three sides for the capture of sunshine at all times of the day. There is a hard tennis court and an outdoor swimming pool (heated 1st April to 30th October). This luxury holiday rental has a games room containing a table tennis table in a large room with a log burner. There are bicycles for use of the guests.

There is much to see and do in this area of Norfolk. Great Hockham is in the centre of the Brecklands, an area of environmental importance. A perfect choice for an outdoor break, within 500m of the holiday house is Thetford Forest Park, 50,000 acres of woodland offering bike and walking trails. Within the Forest is a high wire forest experience and paintballing. In close proximity to the house is the Peddars Way, a Roman road which joins the Norfolk Coastal Path providing 96.5 miles of walks through National Nature Trails. This consists of leafy paths and tree-lined trails.

The village of Great Hockham in Norfolk has a public house and local shops can be found at Watton, a market town 6 miles away. The Georgian Norfolk town of Wymondham is a 15 minute drive and offers a variety of boutiques and gift shops. The City of Norwich is 25 minutes away as is the Georgian town of Bury St Edmunds. Newmarket, with its two racecourses and busy racing calendar, is a 30 minute drive. The famous beaches of Brancaster and Holkham are about 30 miles away. The historic houses and gardens of Norfolk are within easy reach.

“Brilliant holiday.”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2016

Had a fantastic time with family aged from one to sixty eight. Pool, tennis courts, football pitch, bikes all used. Well equipped even supplied us with food bags, foil, coffee, tea, spices etc. Could not fault it, just be aware that pool maintenance takes place on a Thursday and the gardeners and grass cutter do come during the week. The house was spotless and is also cleaned again mid week. Staff very friendly and helpful. The weather was wonderful but take antihistamines and repellent to avoid insect bites!

Dear Linda We are very happy you enjoyed your stay. The team will be thrilled you found the house to your satisfaction. Thank you for selecting Vicarage House. Best wishes Katie and Richard

“Fabulous, well appointed house”

Reviewed 25 May 2013

I took my extended family to Vicarage House in April 2013. It is a great place for a group of people, and brilliantly well stocked with games, dvds, outdoor equipment, wii/xbox, bikes - you name it. Even in cold weather (little time outdoors sadly) it comfortably accommodated 16 and made for a memorable weekend. Katie was also great about posting back some chidren's clothes we left at the house gratis. We will be back.

“Absolutely Perfect”

Reviewed 13 May 2013

Me and my siblings and their offspring rented this property to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday, and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves The house is stunning, the surrounding area is beautiful and there is plenty to keep you occupied whatever the weather.
