The apartment is situated by Edinburgh's ancient and historic Grassmarket, with its cosmopolitan variety of cafes, bars, restaurants and quirky shops.

A 10 minute walk will bring you to our famous Princes Street and its gardens. Many of the museums, galleries and attractions in Edinburgh city centre and the Royal Mile are also an easy stroll away. The apartment is located in a quiet part of the building, away from the bustle of the main street. It is part of a gated community, with security entry.

The comfortable apartment is furnished to a high standard and comprises of a spacious living room, a separate fitted kitchen, a bedroom with a king sized bed (queen size in USA) and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. There are views of the Castle from the bedroom and the kitchen which allow you to appreciate its grandness. This apartment suits families, couples, singles on business and people visiting students. The living room is a stylish and modern room with a comfortable sofa which seats 2 and an easy chair. A fourth easy chair is in the bedroom, and can be brought into the living room when 4 guests are staying. There is a flat screen TV with Freeview, a DVD player and a CD player. One chair converts to a bed. A second foldaway single bed and a travel cot are available on request. There is also a dining table and chairs for 4. Free Wifi is available. A small selection of novels and tourist guides are provided for the use of guests.

The kitchen is a separate room. It is well equipped, with a wide range of good quality utensils and equipment including cooker, hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine/dryer, coffee maker and microwave.

The bedroom is light and airy with a king sized bed (USA queen size). There are mirrored wardrobes, with generous storage space and a hairdryer is also provided.

There is a bathroom which has a spa bath, shower over the bath, a toilet, and a wash-hand basin.

Due to the layout of the building which is built into a hillside, you need to descend 15 steps and climb 7 steps to reach the apartment. The apartment is actually on the second floor, but entry level to the building is at third floor.

The apartment block entrance is through a security coded gate. There are small communal gardens in the centre of the block which are attractive and well maintained. A good supermarket is 50m away, and there are cafes, restaurants and bars in abundance nearby.

As the apartment is set to the back of the block it is very quiet, even at busy times. The one exception is when the EdinburghTattoo is on for 3 weeks of the year. Then you will hear the Tattoo and can enjoy the end of Tattoo fireworks at 10.30 every week night and midnight on Saturdays.

Parking can be obtained at nearby public car parks.

The Scotland region

The Royal Mile starts at Edinburgh Castle and leads down to the Royal Palace of Holyrood and the stunning new Scottish Parliament building. A large peaceful park, the Meadows, is only a few minutes walk away.

Less than ten minutes walk away are three cinemas including the Cameo and the Filmhouse plus three theatres including the Traverse Theatre and the Royal Lyceum Theatre.

There is a large 24 hour, well lit multi-storey car park only 150m away at King Stable's Road.

Central Scotland/Strathclyde

The apartment is in Edinburgh's historic Grassmarket. This large open square was the scene of public hangings, the Porteous Riots and the haunt of the notorious body snatchers, Burke and Hare. There is a wonderful selection of specialist shops, pubs and restaurants on your doorstep and it is only a three-minute walk to the Edinburgh Royal Mile. During the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe this lively area overflows with street performers, musicians and special events.

Every morning we would put the kettle on for tea in the well stocked kitchen and looked out directly at the castle in front of us. Amazing day or night! The suite is very cute and comfy. The beds are comfortable (a little cozy for 4 people) but can be done, nice fluffy towels, lots of reading material about Edinburgh, and everything you would need to live in town. The location couldn't be better. The Grassmarket is awesome, great shops and pubs and restaurants and close to all the sights but thankfully not right on the Golden Mile. We loved it and would return.

The apartment is a one-minute walk from the crowded and noisy Grassmarket, but because it is set back from the street, we heard no noise. The place is too small for more than 2 people, but it had everything we needed and more (pots, pans, etc.). Comfortable bed, plenty of travel literature, including recommendations of restaurants. We have stayed here twice and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Found the apartment to be a pleasant surprise and felt welcomed by the thoughtfulness of the owners. The apartment had things that are often taken for granted in self- catered places so that one can immediately make use of the place. Very good return on the money spent and would definitely use this again.

We travelled to Edinburgh and stayed in this apartment for 5 nights. We had already been emailed all the details of how to get in and where everything was before arriving. We were greeted by Lynne who I booked the apartment through upon arrival, and were made to feel very welcome. In the apartment were various leaflets and maps which were a great touch as we looked through them and were inspired to go visit some of the attractions mentioned. We could not have asked for a better location, we were right in the old town, situated about 5-10 minutes walk from the Castle and Royal Mile. Would defintely be looing to go back and stay in the same apartment, throughly enjoyed our time here

We rented this flat for 2 1/2 weeks during the Edinburgh Fringe. It was our fourth Fringe, so we knew it was a good idea to be in a central location relative to the Fringe venues. We wanted a comfortable, quiet, and clean place, with enough of a kitchen to let us make our own breakfast, and a clothes washer (and if possible, a dryer) so that chores did not get in the way of our dense theater-viewing schedule. This apartment exceeded our expectations and will be our first choice on our next visit to Edinburgh. // First, the location. Grassmarket itself is busy and noisy during the Fringe but is very central. To enter you activate an electric gate lock, go down a half-flight of stairs, across a walkway, then up a half-flight of stairs. There is no lift. The flat is higher off the ground than it sounds because the building is against a steep hill that you never climb. A nice Sainsburys mini-supermarket is 3 minutes' walk up the street. The #2 bus runs by the apartment every 15 minutes. Its bus stops in each direction are almost outside the building gate. Lothian Road, with more buses, is 5-10 minutes' walk away. But we would often just walk 20 minutes to the epicenter of venues and restaurants on South Bridge and Nicolson Street near Chambers. Because the flat is at the back of an old stone building on a corner, with a hidden staircase separating it from the one adjacent flat, it was amazingly quiet. We only heard neighbor music a couple of times at reasonable hours. This flat is part of the "Webster's Land" complex, which some people have noted as a party location, but there was not a trace of partying the entire time we were there. You will probably like the only significant noise--it goes with the fabulous fireworks displays over the Castle in August, which you can see perfectly from the kitchen window each night! // The bed is comfortable and American queen size; it takes up most of the space in the bedroom. It came with a warm duvet; when I found the duvet too warm for August, the manager promptly replaced it with a light blanket and sheet. She was very helpful in other ways during our stay. The closet and small group of drawers in the bedroom were sufficient for the two of us. We put our big case behind a chair in the bedroom and left our other luggage out in the living room. Overall, we were cozy but not cramped, even with the dining table extended. There were plenty of electric plugs for our gadgets. The included free WiFi worked flawlessly and speedily with our iPad and iPhones. // Everything worked in the kitchen--microwave, refrigerator, washer-dryer, and a warp-speed water-boiling kettle. The washer was Euro-typical, very small by American standards (8 lb wash, 2 lb dry) but it worked well. You do need to read the manual first--there's a binder with manuals for everything. Upon our request the manager provided a simple clothes-drying rack which augmented the dryer. // Hot water supply was excellent and the shower was a dream, with its own water heater. And for the first time in Europe we had a bathroom heater! We had no toilet or sink problems, unlike on other previous Edinburgh rentals. // All in all, we were very happy campers. The only things I would change would be to add a wastebasket (dustbin) in the living room area and to remove the two spindly potted floor plants, which added nothing to this excellent flat but did get in the way.
