You can't help but be impressed with the stunning view of Edinburgh Castle. Enjoy a glass of wine or simply a cup of coffee looking at that view of the castle!
Porteous Pend castle view apartment is a 1st floor, 1 bedroom apartment. It's the perfect location for all of Edinburgh's city centre attractions. It has recently been renovated and is equipped with everything you need for a short or long stay. In contrast to overlooking the lively Grassmarket from the living room, the bedroom overlooks a quiet courtyard at the back. It is best suited to 2 people but can accommodate 2 extra guests on the comfortable sofa bed in the living room.
The apartment is right on the Grassmarket in Edinburgh - with plenty to see and do right on your doorstep. It's hard not to be drawn to all that the old town can offer unless of course you are looking for a quiet holiday to get away from it all!. With only a few minutes walk to the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Museum of Scotland and Greyfriars Kirkyard you've got plenty of time to linger in the many pubs, restaurants and cafes on the way. There is so much to see and do in Edinburgh whether for a few days or a few weeks. Visit the many shops, theatres, art galleries and museums. Or simply wander down the many closes and small streets of the old town and discover Edinburgh's gruesome past! A visit to the New Town and the main shopping areas of Princes Street and George Street are also only a 10/15 minute walk.
No need for a car! The apartment is so central that all the city centre attractions and transport links are within easy walking distance. In fact we'd recommend not bringing a car into the city centre unless you need to. There is parking available but it can get expensive. Waverley Train station is only a 10/15 minute walk from the apartment. The airport is only a 30 minute bus or tram ride away. The airport bus (no100) to Waverley Station is a quick and easy way to the apartment from the airport. The new Edinburgh Trams are also now running from the airport to the city centre. Princes Street and George St are also only a 10/15 minute walk.There are buses along Princes Street, Lothian Road and George IV bridge and taxis are available from the Grassmarket.
The Grassmarket itself gets its name from local farmers selling hay, corn and seed. It is better known however for it's public hangings, taking place until 1784 and for the famous Porteous riot. Take a tour and discover the story of the body snatchers Burke and Hare, how half-hingit Maggie survived the Gallows and the world famous story of Greyfriars Bobby!
You will be checking-in to our apartment which you have sole use of so please remember it will be different from checking into a hotel. We want you to be met personally and will arrange for you to be met at the apartment between 4pm to 8pm. Of course we can still meet you after that time but please note to be able to provide this service there will be a charge. It is £20 for arrivals after 8pm and £40 from 10pm till 8am payable on arrival. As the apartment is self catering we will let you enjoy your stay in peace but if there are any problems you can contact us at any time during your stay.
If you have had a long and tiring journey and are due to arrive before the check-in time of 4pm we will try and accommodate this. However we can't guarantee this and may not know till the day if we are able to offer you earlier check-in. There may also be a possibility to drop your bags off earlier, letting you go off and enjoy Edinburgh till the apartment is ready for you.
We welcome families and do not charge for children under 5. We will wash and change the towels and bed linen when you leave but please leave the apartment in a clean and tidy state.
We can provide you with a second set of keys if you need them. We know keys get lost easily but it is expensive for us to keep replacing them. So we will need to charge for any lost keys.
And most importantly of all, enjoy your stay!
