He lived in both Dove Cottage and Allan Bank which are open to the public, with lovely grounds for walks; Dove Cottage also has a world class museum, with various exhibitions.

The Lake District National Park is an outstanding area of natural beauty. Grasmere lies at the very heart of this magnificent landscape.

The region is brimming with natural wonders including, Lakes, tarns, forests, mountains and fells, streams, rivers and waterfalls, all accessible via, paths, roads and high, winding passes.
Wildlife is abundant, with red and roe deer, badgers, red squirrels and recently, otters, all seen from the house.

Bikes, boats and lake cruisers are also available for enjoying this most unspoilt area, as well as some miniture railway lines.

There is something for everyone, apart from walking, climbing, sailing and swimming, including museums, exhibitions, Homes and Gardens, garden centres, adventure centres, cinemas, playhouses, scenic tours, fine restaurants, fast foods, and shops a plenty!

Peace and tranquility to restore the soul, can be found even at the most busy times of the year.

“Excellent place to stay with superb views”

Very comfortable place to stay with an extremely well equipped kitchen. There was even a rolling pin and weighing scales for baking on a rainy day! The sofas and chairs were designed for relaxing in, which isn't always the case is a rental property. The view was unbeatable. We had mixed weather -mainly fine and managed to get a few good walks in.

We're delighted that you enjoyed your holiday and had a lovely time in spite of mixed weather! We hope you found the DVDs and games in the cupboard left for wet days. Also want to send out best wishes to you and the family for when the new grandchild arrives! Kindest regards Nick and Polly

“Everything we had hoped for and more!”

Lovely cosy apartment with superb views of Grasmere lake and the surrounding mountains. Set in a quite location away from the hustle and bustle of Grasmere village, but close enough to walk to for its amenities. Both bedrooms have en-suite facilities, which is always a bonus. The Lounge, kitchen diner is well equipped and very comfortable. The driveway is rather steep but a parking space is available at the bottom of the dive which was perfectly adequate for us. Lastly, although the apartment is attached to the owners property they did not bother us at all unless we asked for their help, having said that they were very friendly and informative. Sadly the summer dates that we wanted were already booked, but we cant wait for our return trip next November.

We are always thinking of new ways to add to guests enjoyment - we are currently planning a bird-cam so guests can watch the wildlife, birds, squirrels and maybe even badgers live on the TV!. what can i say this is the perfect retreat in the lakes, ideally situated in Grasmere great for local walks easy to get in to village but far enough away to be quiet.. amazing view over the lake. inside great kitchen diner / lounge bedroom 1 perfect with en-suite v comfortable bed lovely second bathroom with a great shower. Nick and Polly are lovely and cant do enough to help. loved the place so much that after i proposed we sorted out having our honeymoon there next year.. but couldn't wait a whole year to go back so have been back since and booked in for march next year too.

What can we say - wonderful comments from wonderful people! It was so romantic that you actually proposed at Silver Fell and we are delighted that you chose this as your special place on the occasion of your honeymoon too! Silver Fell is a beautiful holiday cottage and the location is just fabulous. Shame we didn’t have better weather but we still managed a decent walk every day apart from Sunday, all on the door-step.
