“Idyllic and so peaceful”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2014

Had a brilliant week, very clean and well equipped accommodation. Will definitely be booking for next year. It was wonderful l to get up in the morning, open the patio doors and listen to the birds chirping and the sun shining - what more could we ask for!!!!. The only draw back was we had to come home.

“Couldn't of asked for more”

Reviewed 27 Jan 2013

I stayed for 7 days just before Christmas on my own as I was visiting friends. This is the first time I have stayed somewhere in cornwall as I normally camp during the summer months, but wanted to see what it was like outside of the “tourist season”. I found this cottage just browsing google and didn’t really know what to expect, the reviews were excellent but I couldn’t understand how it could be so cheap….normally a case of if it sounds too good to be true it normally is, but was I so wrong. A lot of the reviews have said suitable for older people etc, well not all us young ones are party animals lol I’m 27 and would recommend this to young couples or solo people like myself who are interested in the outdoors. I know the area already as I have friends down there so from the main road the track wasn’t too hard to find, I agree with others the track is a little bumpy but this just adds to the remoteness of the lodge. It is a bit confusing on which way to turn but the instructions were perfect, all I can say is if anyone gets lost just contact the owner and she will help. Upon arrival I was greeted by the owner who is very lovely and showed me what was what, I didn’t see much of the view outside due to me arriving at night but the inside of the lodge was perfect. Come the morning it just showed how remote this place is, I couldn’t hear any traffic or nothing and had a nice view out into the field. Open plan layout inside was spot on with all the essentials you need, don’t get me wrong if you want all the mod cons then go find somewhere in a city. To me this was ideal as lets face it, you don’t go down to cornwall to stay inside all day, you want to get out and explore. I won’t keep waffling on because people need to visit this place to see for themselves but if your undecided like I was, I wouldn’t worry as you won’t be disappointed. There is a shop just at the end of the track, also its close to Perranporth and the Cider Farm  well worth a visit to do some samples. Overall…would I stay here again??? 110% I don’t think I would stay anywhere else if I wasn’t camping

“Secluded Retreat ideal for relaxing and exploring Cornwall”

Reviewed 7 May 2012

The on-line booking was straightforward, with an accurate description of the cottage. Price and deposit were clear for selected dates, although it would have been preferable for the website to show the additional price of the security deposit and administration fee before proceeding to booking stage. Saying that, the admin fee wasn't astroniomical and the security deposit was returned well within the promised two weeks. Due to the very rural location of the cottage we did not find it straight away so would recommend a Sat Nav as a back-up just in case you miss any of the turnings given in the written directions (perhaps a map included with directions would help...) We were met by the owners (and their dog!) on arrival who were very friendly and welcoming. Although their house was next to the cottage they left us to it with the offer to just knock on the door if we needed anything. The cottage was clean and well presented, just as shown on the website. It was also quite cosy once we'd set the heating and hot water, to take the chill off a cool April week. The location made it an incredibly peaceful and relaxing place to stay too! We would recommend this cottage to any couple looking either just to get away for some peace and quiet or to use as the ideal base to explore Cornwall (being only 10 minutes or so from the main A30). We look forward to returning ourselves in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to send this very positive feedback. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Kind regards SCC Booking Team

“Nice and quiet - a retreat indeed”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2011

This was a nice cosy place that was well equipped - including a chilled bottle of wine in the fridge! Although it is not clear, the Shilbury Retreat is located on the the grounds of the owner's house but we were given total privacy and had the use of our own little garden. We were half expecting there to be washing up liquid and toilet paper however we had to provide this ourselves, and I might suggest that they provide this to future guests. I loved having to drive down the country tracks to reach the property as it really made it feel like we had got away from it all. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we were even told that a lot of people that stay there end up spending a lot of time sleeping. That could have easily been done. They say that Cornwall has a shower a day and two on Sunday's and that was complertely true for our stay. The weather didn't bother us though because there's so much to see and do. The cottage is perfectly located and in easy reach of of the A30 and county's best attractions. I would highly recommend the Minack theatre for a show and the Eden Project offered much more than I expected. We also had our bikes with us and were able to easily cycle to Perrenporth and St Agnes as well as explore the coutry lanes surrounding. We had a nice break.

Thank you for taking the time to send this very positive feedback. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Kind regards SCC Booking Team
