We moved to Cornwall as a family in October 2010 with the intention of setting up our own holiday letting business and to have our own Cornish escape from our previous lifestyle. We are Kate and Kevin Thomas and have 3 young boys who love the freedom of the great outdoors. Little Rosewarne is a smallholding of some 9 acres and in the past has had it's own dairy herd. We started to convert the old cattle shed and creamery at the beginning of 2012 and wanted to maintain the character of the building while providing a sustainable future for the farm. Our next project is to convert the old piggery and stables into further accommodation. Work on this has already begun. We keep chickens at Little Rosewarne and currently enjoy eggs from three Copper Marans, two speckled Marans and one Cream Legbar. We also raise Berkshire pigs. These are black haired and famed for their great quality pork.Having spent many years staying in quality holiday accommodation we have figured out what works and what is sometimes missing and it is to this end we hope we can provide that little something extra. If you feel we have forgotten something or there is something we can do to improve your stay then please ask. We believe that 'The Old Dairy' at Little Rosewarne will make the perfect Cornish Holiday Escape. So the only question is....... when will yours be?

Location description from owner

The England region

Located in the far west of Great Britain on a peninsula tumbling into the vast Atlantic ocean, almost completely surrounded by the sea, a magnificent coastline wraps around Cornwall for almost 300 miles. Cornwall is also the location of mainland Great Britain's most southerly promontory, The Lizard, and one of the UK's most westerly points, Land's End, while a few miles off shore and even further west is an archipelago of tiny islands that make up the Isles of Scilly.

Godolphin Cross

The Old Dairy borders the National Trust's Godolphin House and Estate (as featured in Cornwall with Caroline Quentin on ITV). St. Ives, Penzance, Marazion, Falmouth, The Lizard Peninsula and Helford and Fal Estuaries are all just a short distance away, thus making The Old Dairy a great place to explore the most southerly and westerly parts of Cornwall. For beach lovers Praa Sands is close by, with Kynance Cove, Gwithian Sands, and Carbis Bay a short drive away. With access to both coasts there is always something for everyone from sheltered coves and sandy beaches to fantastic surf. But if the weather is having an off day, there are plenty of fantastic days out. The Eden Project is a must and The National Maritime Museum and Porthcurno Telegraph Museum are highly recommended (ask our 3 boys). Other local attractions include Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Flambards and Paradise Park. There are a number of fantastic gardens (such as Trebah Gardens) and National Trust sites (including Godolphin House and Estate, Trengwainton Garden, Glendurgan Garden, Trelissick Garden, Trerice House and Levant Mine) to explore as well as the Mining Heritage of Cornwall - Little Rosewarne is situated within the Tregonning and Trewavas District World Heritage site. In addition, there are some English Heritage sites nearby (including Pendennis Castle, St. Mawes Castle and the Chysauster Ancient Village). For the more energetic there is easy access to some fantastic coastal walking along the South West Coast paths. Rural walks can be had from your front door - cross the road and explore the National Trusts Godolphin Woods (a blanket of bluebells in early spring) and Godolphin Hill which boasts a fantastic panorama. You can see St. Ives and Gwithian Sands on the North Coast, down into the Lands End Peninsula, with St. Michaels Mount, Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole to the south. Further round the spine of the Lizard Peninsula stretches out with the distinctive satellite dishes of Goonhilly piercing the skyline and finally Carn Brea and the Monument to the north.Cycling both on the road and off road is excellent with the Mineral Tramways Trails great for all abilities. There are local bike hire shops in both Porthleven and on the Mineral Tramways. The small fishing village of Porthleven lies 4 miles to the south with a wide choice of pubs, fantastic restaurants, cafes and tea rooms. There is also a good choice of locally produced foods with a fishmongers and deli. There are a number of local pubs which provide a warm welcome, great beer and good food. We would be happy to recommend some. There is fresh produce a plenty in Cornwall - from clotted cream and Roskilly's dairy ice cream, fresh fish and locally reared meat, poultry and vegetables. There are two farm shops within a couple of miles of Godolphin. This is a small sample of places to visit and things to do to help you enjoy your holiday. We are always happy to suggest more – or explore what this part of Cornwall has to offer for yourself.

“Laid back luxury”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2013

We arrived at the The Old Dairy and were welcomed by very friendly Kevin. Our son aged 5 was so excited and asked Kevin hundreds of questions which he wasn't phased at all (as they have 3 boys of their own). The cottage is furnished to a high standard and has everything you need. It's great to be supplied with washing up clothes, toilet rolls etc. Our first night was spent munching the lovely cream provided by Kate (we think - apologies if you made the scones Kevin) washed down with complimentary wine. If you want wifi you have to sit in the car as you cannot get it in the house. That was our only downside which isn't much really for us but maybe a problem to others. Kevin and Kate will give you all the local knowledge and where to eat etc. Cannot rate this place highly enough. Thank you to Kate & Kevin for our stay.

Thanks for the feedback and we are glad to confirm that we have up graded our WiFi! You can now use inside as well as outside!
