The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Southwest of Turkey is The Turquoise coast. The rich green descending mountains meeting clear blue waters and indenteded coast line with gulfs and coves are making the area truly magnificent and naturally mystique and beautiful. There are many amazing beaches in Turquoise coast. Sarigerme, Iztuzu, Oludeniz and Patara are some of the well-known ones.
The history in this area takes you 2000 years back to Lycians who are believed to be the first civilizations to apply democracy. The region was always an appealing place for settlement in the history that many different colonies lived here. The Lycians built over 23 cities in the area and today the most famous and visited ones are Patara, Xhantos, Pinara, Olympos, Myra and Tloss.
Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans also have left their cultural marks in these soils after the lycians. There are fascinating mixture of rich factual and mythological history and stories about kings, heroes, saints and worriors.
Gocek is a little jewel near popular tourist destination Fethiye in Southwest of Turkey. Although it is only a small village amazingly accomadates 6 significant marinas. Secluded bay and mysterious coastline would make this village very attractive for sailors. The bay is surrounded by 12 islands with different shapes and sizes.
Deep blue sea and ascending green mountains on the back create a magnificent scenery. The terracotta rooftop buildings are as high as 2 floors almost look like if they sank into the nature.
Many good quality and reasonably priced restaurants lined up front of the sea with a lovely bay view and are shaded by the mature trees to enjoy your meals away from the hot mediterranian sun during the day. At night the peaceful and pleasantly quite atmospher gives the feeling of relaxation although you will be surrounded by many people sharing the same enjoyment during the high season.
There are many interesting beaches and historical sites to see near Göcek. The magnificent Iztuzu beach where the breeding grounds for sea turtles is 30 minutes drive from Gocek. Nature walk lovers would enjoy interesting and challenging Saklikent Gorge which is 45 minutes drive on Fethiye direction. Kayaköy is a greek ghost town worth seeing near Fethiye. The most photographed famous Lagoon Oludeniz is again just the other side of Fethiye. Tloss, Xhantos, Letoon are some of the ancient cities to visit in the area.

"Wonderful canal side house"
This is our fifth visit to Villa Anya, and it was a joy as ever. House was in great condition as always, beautiful garden on the canal, 50hp boat to visit the beaches, and the lovely town of Gocek just a short walk away. All the staff in the Portville complex are incredibly helpful whatever it is you need. It is a magical experience staying in this house, and our 3 kids love it (particularly the fishing off the pontoon at the end of the garden). Rahmi who manages things is always available to help out if you need anything Holiday advice: buy lots of takeout from the Kebab Hospital to eat by the canal
