The Sporades region
The Sporades islands include Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos, and of these, undoubtedly Skopelos is the jewel. Known by some as the 'Emerald of the Aegean' because of its pine-clad hills, Skopelos is one of the greenest of all Greek islands. Also known by others as the 'Mamma Mia' island, the eponymous movie used many locations on the island including the iconic wedding scene at the clifftop monastery of St John, or Aghios Ioannis. Neighbouring Skiathos is home to the local airport, and the port of Glossa, known as Loutraki, is a mere 20 minutes away by ferry. For those with an adventurous streak, Volos can be reached by ferry in two hours, and this opens up the scenic opportunities in both Evia and the Pilion region.
Winters tend to be mild and wet, hence the profusion of greenery and wild flowers. The summers however don't disappoint, with temperatures high, humidity low and unbroken sunshine from dawn to dusk. From early July right through to mid -September it can be relied upon to be the best holiday weather imaginable. Even in the cooler months, Skopelos is a haven for walkers, birdwatchers, mountain bikers and sea kayakers. Throughout the summer there are also a number of local festivals and processions involving the whole village, both old and young.
Glossa has a selection of tavernas, cafe's and restaurants including the renowned Agnanti, regarded as the best in the Aegean, as well as a number of local supermarkets, bakeries and butchers. Fish is sold from vans or straight from the port of Glossa (known as Loutraki).
Loutraki also has a number of tavernas on the waterfront, and cafes. We will be happy to help you with recommendations and advise on travel arrangements. We will collect you from the port and lead you to the house, introducing you to the wonderful wood fired bakery and friendly little supermarket on the way and demonstrate all the features of the house before leaving you to relax in this beautiful environment. As the English owners, we live next door!

"A Perfect Property made a perfect holiday"
Everything about this property was perfect. Right from booking the pre holiday help from the owners Karen and Tony was invaluable. The views are breathtaking. Glossa is a beautiful hillside village and has a range of amenities and tavernas that mean you won't have to travel far if you don't want to. Karen and Tony were a blessing throughout the stay and work hard to ensure you have everything you need without intruding on your holiday. We didn't hire a car which reduces your options but there is a very good bus service on the island which can get you to most places on the island. We have an 11 year old who loved the island and was more than happy with the pool and beaches on Skopelos. Skopelos is a real gem and it was a relaxing treat to spend a week in Glossa. We have rented many properties over the years but this tops them all for location, weather but especially the hard work put in by Karen and Tony.

"A little piece of Greek heaven!"
The setting is idyllic, the accommodation is superb & the pool and the view are to die for. Loved Agnanti & Frank Lampard's, even Yianni's World of Interesting & Tasteful Memorabilia is an experience. Just arrange to have the mozzies totally exterminated & it will be perfection personified. Karen & Tony are the most accommodating hosts and nothing is too much trouble; always discreetly in the background if you need anything. Can't wait for the next time.

"Immaculate villa with incredible views"
Tony and Karen are the perfect hosts.Although they live at the end of the villa, they are so discreet. They are very caring and professional. Villa is spotless with glorious views and pool and garden. Fantastic welcome package, Bedroom is beatiful, airy and spacious. Glossa is quaint and very Greek and quieter than Skopelos. My boys and I loved it. Not many tourists so lovely! Beaches are fab and a few water sports on Milio beach. If you like mamma mia this is the island for you!!
Thank you so much for your kind words, and we're really pleased that you enjoyed our little spot on the island. There will always be a little piece of Glossa here for you, and we expect the full 'Dancing Queen' should you choose to return. Best wishes, Karen and Tony

"Excellent in every way"
This lovely villa was even better than its own advertising suggested. The (huge) beautiful bedroom and balcony, the perfect non-overlooked pool (the owners/neighbours are discretion itself) and of course the amazing view are all wonderful. The position of the villa on the edge of the charming village of Glossa, yet on the same level as the ´main street´, means it is both accessible and private. The owners, Tony and Karen, are very helpful, very enthusiastic, yet unintrusive. All in all, the holiday could only have been improved by being longer; seven days is too short, especially considering the time it can take to travel to Skopelos from the UK.
Thank you both for your kind comments, we were really happy to have you both visit us and our little corner of the island. So pleased that you enjoyed yourself, and with luck we may see you here again.

"Amazing villa, amazing view, amazing owners!"
We had a truly wonderful week at the villa in Glossa. The villa owners who live next door gave us complete privacy when we wanted it but were on hand to help advise and just be downright wonderful people - we feel like we have 2 new friends! They have thought if everything in the villa and then some! The villa itself could not have a better location - on the edge of a hilltop village, walking distance from tavernas, bakeries, mini markets. Yet still it remains a quiet village with lovely people...then bustly little tavernas and cafes when the sun goes down - perfect. But what can't be got across in this review is just how spectacular the view from the villa is. The villa isn't at all overlooked itself but has far reaching views of the sea and islands around Skopelos. It really is something to behold. Watching the birds and butterflies from the pool was also a joy. Thank you so much Karen and Tony - our first visit to Greece could not have been better.
You're both very kind, and it was an absolute pleasure to have you here. We try to improve continuously, and next year will be even better. Thank you so much for visiting us.

"Wonderful location, truly beautiful views, close to the village but quite secluded"
Villa Yiala is a gem set on a hillside above the aegean. It is hard to believe that there is a better spot to view the panoramic sunsets. The Villa feels like it is in the open countryside but the lovely village of Glossa is only a few minutes walk away, with excellent restaurants, a supermarket etc. Tony and Karen are superb hosts, discreet but very helpful. The Villa is extremely well appointed, there is a seriously good bed, luxury linens and towels (very unusual in Greece) lots of interior and exterior space with plenty of shade and a multitude of places to take the sun. The free meal at the nearby Agnanti (probably the best restaurant on the island) was a welcome bonus.
Doug and Mary, it was truly a pleasure to have you here at Villa Yiali, and thank you for your kind words. We sincerely hope to have you again here at the 'discerning' end of the island, and would truly look forward to welcoming you back. Have a good summer. Karen and Tony

"Wonderful !! I have already booked for 2014 !"
The owners are very professional yet, friendly & approachable. They did all that they possibly could to make my stay memorable for the best of reasons. Making me aware of the many highlights that Skopelos has to offer and how best to get to wherever I wanted to go. Without the benefit of their local knowledge I would have missed out on so much. The property is full of character & very comfortable, set in a beautiful location which , being on the edge of the village, is close to all amenities, yet peaceful.
Thank you. It was a sincere pleasure to have you here and show you the delights of our wonderful island. We look forward to seeing you again next year, and in the meantime take care.
