Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Glenshiel is one of the most awesome and atmospheric glens in Scotland. Situated at the head of this amazing glen, Woodlands is a fantastic base for climbers, walkers and tourers. Apart from the multitude of Munros in Glenshiel (Five Sisters and Saddle being accessed directly from the house) there's a whole host of other walks to do including coastal, valley and woodland. Wander along tumbling burns and deserted glens, marvel at the many cascading waterfalls, especially after heavy rain. Other mountain ranges reachable from Woodlands are the Cuillen hills, Ben Nevis range, Glen Affric, Glenelg, Torridon and Knoydart. In addition, Glencoe is about two hours away.

The Isle of Skye, with all it has to offer, is twenty minutes by car. Eilean Donan Castle, reputed to be the most photographed in Scotland, is nearby. For those interested in history, the iron age brochs are a must. Armadale Gardens, Poolewe Gardens and Attadale Gardens are all within reach for the avid horticulturalists.

Invershiel

Woodlands is also extremely well-placed for touring the Highlands and Islands. Enjoy the peace and tranquility of Applecross accessed via the highest road in Scotland or take a cruise along Loch Ness and visit Urquhart Castle. Closer to home there is the glorious Glenelg peninsular, the delightful Plockton or you may fancy going over the sea to Skye. Take a seal trip, sail in a glass-bottomed boat, go boating, pony trekking, mackarel fishing or just relax in the house and enjoy the views.

“Delightful Cottage with Wonderful Views”

Reviewed 20 Mar 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Woodlands. It's a very spacious cottage set in beautiful scenery with wonderful views from the main windows. Even in winter we found lots to explore. We had a lovely day on Raasay and had fun exploring Skye. The climbers among the party were spoilt for choice! Hope to return one day.

“Christmas at Woodlands was fantastic”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2013

We have just spent Christmas at Woodlands. After a 12 hour journey we arrived at a lovely warm, cozy & comfortable home. The house was perfect for a large family like ours. The children had plenty to keep them occupied with the array of games & films provided. We adults spent our time sitting at the lovely large table in the kitchen, the heart of the home. The living room is very spacious with lovely comfortable furniture & an open fire that just had to be lit. The house is very welcoming & has everything you would need, Paula has thought of everything. The views are fantastic, the walks are amazing, we even had snow on one of our walks which certainly added to the beauty of it. A good measure of success I believe, is the opinion of a teenager, My 19 year old son said it was the best Christmas he can remember and didnt want to leave. We all had a fantastic time and loved the house. Thank you Paula for helping to make our Christmas that little bit more special this year, it is one we wont forget.

“Woodlands is a great house in a beautiful mountainous location and extremely good value for money..”

This cottage is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. It is very remote yet we didn't feel cut-off. However, we didn't stray very far as there wasn't time. A week isn't nearly long enough so we have already arranged another visit. The house itself is a Tardis. It doesn't look very big from the outside but inside it is huge. Having said that it also feels very cosy and is extremely comfortable. The kids loved it as there is woodland behind the house to explore, a games shed, and a large lounge in which to play - we hardly saw them. The adults clustered around the large table in the kitchen. The kitchen was well-equipped but we didn't really take advantage of that as we used the large slow-cooker mostly cooking various casserole dishes - very quick and easy. It was a very, very stress-free holiday. If you want to relax in beautiful surrounds with happy children then Woodlands is the place to go.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your time at Woodlands. Regards Paula.
