Location description from owner

The County Antrim region

County Antrim is situated on the north-eastern coast of Northern Ireland. The capital of Belfast city is a one hour drive from the cottage. If you plan to access the cottage from Belfast, the ideal route would be to travel via car along the coastal road, which travels through Larne. This is a beautiful scenic route whereby you can see the first glimpses of the infamous Glens of Antrim, which comprise of 9 green valleys. If you continue to drive past Garron Point you will eventually reach the towns of Cushendun and Ballycastle. Drive a little further and you will reach the national treasures of Giant's Causeway and the Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge. Bushmills, the home of Irish Whiskey and the holiday resort of Portrush can be your final destination.

Glenarm

The Glens of Antrim are considered an area of outstanding natural beauty, with much music and folk lore inspired by their rugged landscape. Garron Point lies within these Glens, between the towns of Carnlough and Waterfoot. The area is a peaceful oasis, with the coastal road making perfect access to the nearby towns and villages of Glenarm, Carnlough, Waterfoot and Cushendall. There are various beaches distributed amongst these towns.

Glenarm Castle and its beautiful surroundings are home to many events, including the World Class Highland Games in July. You can enjoy dinner in the stately home of the Londerry Arms Hotel (once owned by Winston Churchill) in the harbour town of Carnlough. Breathe in the fresh air whilst walking through Glenariff Forest Park until you reach the waterfall of Cranny Falls. Cushendall also showcases the Heart of the Glens festival during August. Alternatively you can enjoy the walk along the Cushendall Cliff Path, until you stumble upon the secret ruins of the Layd Church and Graveyard. Play a round of golf in the town and finally enjoy a pint of guinness whilst listening to traditional live music in Johnny Joes Pub.
