“Cosy, warm and extremely well equipped”
Having for many enjoyed short autumn breaks in a friend's cottage near Keswick which has been sold, this was our first time staying in the Glenridding area. The Keepers Cottage was a lovely replacement for our old home from home. Being fussy about beds I was particularly pleased to have a king size and that the bed linen was of a good quality - no scratchy man made stuff here! The suite in he living area was likewise extremely comfortable and attractive. The owner has taken great care to make the cottage attractive to look at whilst at the same time equipping it with everything you could possibly need. The small dishwasher meant we didn't have to waste precious walking time every day and a good size fridge and freezer held the essentials like beer, wine, etc We didn't need to use the electric convector or storage heaters as the log burning stove belted out the heat each evening and the cottage retained much of it through the day. Our electricity bill after the 3 nights came to about £7 and was therefore under the £10 free of charge allowance applied by the owner. We hadn't realised that the first £10 was non chargeable so it was a nice surprise. The stove does absolutely gobble up logs however and unlike a lot of stoves it seemed to combust too fast to keep it in through the night when we went to bed.The little garden was handy for our pooch to empty both his tanks (we cleared up immediately of course) although he wasn't too keen on the broken slates underfoot at first and refused to perform! We made sure we left no dog hairs as requested and were not bothered about pooches not being allowed upstairs as we have the same rule at home.Nights are blissfully quiet as the cottage is off the road down an unmade track. The owner's OH came to help us when we had a tiny little problem with a switch cover and she was very patient, helpful and friendly. Lunch at the Travellers Rest in Glenridding was good. The pub is small but cosy and run by lovely friendly helpful people, more than can be said for the White Lion in Patterdale which is the other pub walkable from the cottage. All in all a lovely cosy, comfy and toasty warm cottage in a great area for walks from the door and a perfect break. Thank you James and Sarah.
“Great cottage, great location = great holiday”
Cottage: cosy, comfortable, well-equipped, warm & welcoming - & great having the wood burner at this time of year! Retains the traditional charm without feeling old-fashioned which was lovely. Location: smack bang in the middle of the mountains, walking distance of Glenridding & Patterdale with plenty of pubs & shops & restaurants. Only took the car out once, snow on the mountains, steamer on the lake, all added up to a great holiday for us & Hugo (dog), & looking forward to being back in June.
Owner's reply: Glad you liked it despite the good old Cumbrian weather!
“Lovely warm cottage in a beautiful place”
We had a wonderful time staying in Keeper's Cottage. The cottage is well equipped, cosy and warm. Patterdale is a great base for walking in the Lake District fells, with Helvellyn, Place Fell and the High Street peaks on the doorstep.
Owner's reply: Thank you for the review and thanks for leaving the cottage lovely and clean. James
“Lovely cosy cottage in tranquil location”
Tucked away at the back of the Grisedale Lodge Hotel where we stayed a few years ago finds Keepers Cottage - an ideal base for exploring the Patterdale area. The cottage is plenty big enough for two and a dog and is furnished in keeping with its age and character with all mod cons. We loved it and have booked again for the same time next year!
Owner's reply: Glad you had a nice stay.Thank you
“Never fails to deliver”
Just as good as previous stays with the added bonus that the rear courtyard garden had been much improved and was now very enticing to sit out there and relax with a nice glass of wine. Excellent location with numerous walks from the cottage door so didn't use the car for all of our stay. Excellent accommodation for 2 people with a well fitted out kitchen.
Owner's reply: Thank you. Good to hear the back garden works! James
“Charming Cottage in Lovely Area”
Keepers Cottage is a very charming and comfortable cottage in a safe location within easy walking distance of both Glenridding and Patterdale. The cottage is attractive and very thoughtfully furnished with everything you need - perfect for two adults and, in our case, two dogs. The surrounding area is lovely: it was a delight to walk the dogs into Glenridding to the local shops and the lake and sit in the outside cafe at the boatyard. There are boat trips on the lake, stunning scenery and it is a wonderful area for walking with several delightful walks right from the door. We felt that the cottage was good value for money, the owner was extremely helpful and considerate and it was a really wonderful area for a holiday.
Owner's reply: Thank you. Hope to see you again. James
“Excellent 2 person cottage”
We stayed a week in Keepers Cottage. It is a very comfortable base, a quiet location but an easy walk to nearby villages. Some good longer walks nearby. We appreciated the fully equipped kitchen that made it easy to stay in to cook dinner a couple of times.
Owner's reply: Thank you, nice to hear you enjoyed it. James
“Perfect cosy retreat for two in a lovely part of the Lake District”
Keeper's Cottage is a lovely cottage and an ideal place to stay for walkers or any couple wanting a quiet, peaceful break in a place of real beauty in Lakeland. This cosy cottage has everything that is required for self catering but there are many good eating places nearby if you would rather someone else do the cooking. The location is ideal for many walks to some of the most famous peaks in Lakeland straight from the door. There are also many good level walks for those not wanting to climb hills, especially around the shores of Ullswater. We would have no hesitation in booking the same cottage again for a future break.
Owner's reply: Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed your stay. James
“A peaceful holiday in a lovely little cottage with fantastic walking from the door.”
Keepers Cottage is a little gem and a credit to owner James. We have taken many cottage holidays over the past few years but this is the only property we have re-visited and in fact shall be making a third visit in 2015. Although small, the cottage is well equiped, cosy and has a lovely open gallery bed room and bathroom. For dog owners like us, you may find the outdoor space a little restricted - pity there isn't a little bit more garden but please don't let this put you off. A very quiet setting away from the road yet only 10 mins walk in either direction to villages where food, drink and provisions can be obtained. Walking from the door is fantastic with something for every one.
Owner's reply: Thank you,Glad you enjoy Keepers cottage. James
“Cosy cottage in beautiful setting”
This was the second time we'd stayed at Keeper's Cottage and we'd recommend it to other people looking for easy access to the fells and the pubs. It's a small cottage but it's got everything you need, it's nice and quiet, has it's own parking space - perfect.
Owner's reply: Appreciate the good comments. Thank you
