Perth is only 20 minutes away by car, Gleneagles and St.Andrews are both within 35 minutes, Edinburgh, Stirling and Dundee are 40 minutes.

The Scotland region

Whilst providing something for everyone, Kinross-shire also provides a beautiful base from which to explore wider Central Scotland. Loch Leven nestles in a wide valley between the Lomond Hills, the Cleish Hills and Benarty Hill. Along with the Ochills, that are immediately to the west, these form the natural boundary between the Forth-Clyde valley 'Lowlands' and the 'Highlands'.The area surrounding Loch Leven provides very fertile soils and Pittendreich has been a centre of intensive arable farming since at least the mid 17th century.Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Blair Atholl are all within an hours easy drive up the M90/A9. The area is also rich in culture, with plenty to explore both on our doorstep and further afield. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned at our very own Loch Leven Castle, on an island in Loch Leven, for almost a year, before managing to escape in 1568. There are boat trips to the island through much of the year, leaving from The Boathouse, The Pier in Kinross. This is also the place to arrange any fishing on the Loch, as well as having a lovely bistro/cafe. Glamis Castle is approximately 1 hour drive away, as is Stirling Castle and Edinburgh Castle. Each of these provides a great day out.

Tayside/Perthshire

The region around Loch Leven has been further enhanced by the newly completed Loch Leven Heritage Trail. We are fortunate to be within a few minutes walk of one of the access points onto this hard surface trail circumnavigating Loch Leven. You can walk or cycle to RSPB, Vane Farm in one direction or head westward towards Milnathort and Kinross in the other. There are numerous coffee shops to reward your efforts. We are in a lovely rural area, yet with the advantage of easy access to most of Central Scotland. Many musical events are on offer in the area, with Backstage at the Green by Mundell Music providing a vast and varied array of musicians to enjoy, the successful Rewind festival at Scone, Perth also being a regular event. There are plenty of places to eat-out or to arrange takeaways if you want a change from walking to our local Balgedie Toll pub, or Loch Leven Larder farm shop. Kinross has plenty of amenities; supermarket, banks, chemists, a health centre, swimming pool, cafes etc. Giacopazzi's in Milnathort sells fantastic home made ice creams; you frequently see whole families having a treat. Kinnesswood village has a petrol station with a small convenience store opposite.
