Description from owner

Description

Bluefolds Highland Holiday cottages, Glenlivet have panoramic views to the Mountains in the Cairngorms National Park. Pets are welcome. Our 4 cottages are set on a hillside within farmland with lots of open space in Glenlivet. This location, to the east of the Cairngorm Mountains, is dryer and sunnier than areas to the west of Scotland. The wildlife in Glenlivet and the Cairngorms is exceptional such as Red Deer, Roe Deer and Red Squirrels; along with whisky distilleries and castles both lived in and romantic ruins. Aberlour cottage at the centre of the steading building with 2 bedrooms, 1 twin ground floor and 1 double and single upstairs; :lounge/dinning room and kitchen. The cottage is south facing with patio doors opening into a walled garden within a fenced garden. Roe deer can be seen in the fields near the cottage in the early morning and evening. We welcome well behaved dogs - normally 1. Excellent area for walking, wildlife and whisky!

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Glenlivet is a highly rated area for viewing wildlife - in the spring it is time to watch the blackcock lekking (a spectacular mating display); lapwing and oystercatchers return to nest and hatch their chicks. In autumn there are opportunities to watch the Red Deer Rutting (as seen on BBC Autumn Watch) another fantastic sight. Troup Head at the coast near MacDuff has an RSPB Reserve where the cliffs are filled with Gannets from February when they return until October when the young finally fly away. There are opportunities at the coast to see Dolphins and many seabirds as well as Ospreys fishing. We have beautiful ruined castles such as Balvenie, close to the Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown, Auchindoun, Drumin and Huntly as well as a lived in family castle at Ballindalloch which also has beautiful gardens, walks by the river and a herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. The Moray Firth has beautiful beaches stretching from Nairn in the west to Cullen in the east and quaint fishing villages such as Findhorn, Findochty, Crovie and Pennan. Lossiemouth has a choice of 2 sand beaches to the east and west of the town. Elgin is a lovely town with a beautiful ruined cathedral, a motor museum, a museum containing 2 hoards of Roman coins found at Birnie the ancient town of Moray. It has a lovely park with a boating pond. There is an excellent choice of shops from supermarkets to Johnstons of Elgin finest cashmeres and coffee shop.
