Description from owner

Description

Folds cottage is small south facing farmhouse which enjoys all day sunshine and the stunning mountain views to the Cairngorms National Park. Folds is surrounded by a fenced garden. Pets are welcome.

Our location on the hillside is spectacular and wildlife viewing from the cottage of roe deer, buzzards, kestrels and red squirrels makes it a special, but remote place. Travelling on the quiet local roads is enjoyed by our visitors and there are wonderful walks on the Glenlivet Crown Estate along with more wildlife and walks throughout the Cairngorms National Park. Dufftown is the centre of the Malt Whisky Industry and there are many distilleries open to the public offering free tours and tastes including The Glenlivet, Glenfiddich and Glenfarclas. For a change from mountain air it is an hours drive to the coast with stunning beaches at Lossiemouth, Findhorn and Cullen. We have a good local pub, the Croft Inn and restaurants in Dufftown and Tomintoul.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Situated on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, Bluefolds is in the hills and glens of Moray Speyside an area renowned for its Whisky Distilleries; fantastic wildlife and walking for all abilities from short circular walks in Glenlivet and around Tomintoul to long strenuous walks in the on the Glenlivet estate or our local Corbett; Ben Rinnes. Dufftown is the centre of the Whisky industry with the famous Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries both open to the public. The Glenlivet distillery is just 4 miles from the cottages and also offers free tours. There are 2 whisky Festivals annually centred around Dufftown; the first weekend in May and the last weekend in September. The Moray Walking Festival takes place on the 3rd weekend in June. There are Highland Games in Tomintoul on the 3rd Saturday in July ;at Dufftown on the last Saturday in July and Aberlour 1st Saturday in August. Our climate is dryer than the west of Scotland and we have few midges! We have a great selection of castles to visit in the area from Romantic Ballindalloch castle to Royal Balmoral. There are many ruined castles with long histories around as well: Drumin; Auchindoun, Balvenie and Huntly to name a few. If you feel like some sea air or lovely sandy beaches, we have many of those about an hours drive from the cottages: Findhorn; Roseisle; Burghead, Lossiemouth, Cullen. Our beautiful town of Elgin, as well as a great selection of shops, has a ruined Cathedral; Biblical garden; Johnstons of Elgin woollen mill; Motor museum; Museum, Park and Library.
