The Scotland region

Isle of Skye is accessed via the main A87 trunk road but is an ideal rural retreat. Home of the Cuillin mountains, the Old Man of Storr and the Trotternish Ridge it is the perfect location for hill walkers and climbers. Plenty of easier walks for younger family members and those less inclined to undertake such adventurous activites. Easy access to Uig ferry terminal for day trips to the Hebridean islands of Lewis and Harris, and North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist. Perfectly located to take advantage of the Gulf stream we enjoy a mild climate for most of the year. The beaches at Staffin and Glenbrittle are great places for the children to enjoy and the coral beaches near Dunvegan are well worth a visit. Don't forget to visit Dunvegan Castle, home of the MacLeod clan whilst you are there. With too many outdoor beauty spots to describe in detail the main ones not to miss are: The Fairy Glen near Uig, The Fairy Pools in Glenbrittle, Duntulm Castle, Talisker Whisky Distillery in Carbost, Clan Donald Centre and Gardens at Armadale and the pretty harbour town of Portree.

Glenhinnisdal

The Museum of Island Life is a replica blackhouse village with fully restored thatched cottages that are designed to be as close as possible to the original dwellings. Located in Kilmuir in the north end of Skye they are well worth a visit. Nearby is Flora MacDonald's grave and monument. She famously helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape after his defeat at Culloden. Duntulm Castle was once the home of the MacDonald Clan before they relocated to the south end of the island. Although in a ruinous condition now the history of this castle is displayed on signs around the site. Whitewave activity centre is also in the Kilmuir area and offers kayaking, archery and mountain boarding amongst other outdoor activities.

With Portree only a 20 minute drive from the apartment your choice of places to eat out are plentiful. There is Cafe Arriba at the top of the harbour: vegetarian options, menus that change daily and wonderful views, this colourful cafe has a relaxed atmosphere. The Granary on the main square has recently been renovated and serves delicious dishes, with great choices for children. They have plenty of tables outside as well and it's lovely to have a cup of tea and home-baking whilst sitting in the centre of the village. Further afield there is the multi-award winning Three Chimneys at Colbost. A world famous restaurant that is open for lunches and dinners - with such a famous place as this booking is essential. Every little village in Skye has some great places to eat - Flodigarry Hotel in the north, The Old Schoolhouse in Dunvegan, Uig Hotel and several others in Portree. Fresh seafood is in plentiful supply, as you would expect on an island where men still make their living from working on fishing boats.

“Comfortable and Cosy”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2016

Kinkell is our best accomodation we had so far during our holiday in Scotland. It is comfortable and cosy. Very nice decorated and we had all we needed. We also had a warm welkom. Thank you Iona :-)

It was my pleasure to have you and your family stay with us. I try to make the apartment as welcoming as possible so I'm glad to hear you appreciated the efforts.

“Our favorite apartment ever. Cozy and warm with beautiful views.”

Beautifully decorate apartment. My kids loved the beanbags in front of the electric fire place, and also the swings on the front lawn. The beds were super comfortable with beautiful linens. The apartment is absolutely spotless! We wished would could have stayed longer. A perfect place to relax and explore Skye.

We are so glad you liked the apartment. We try to make it a place that is warm and comfortable so that our guests can relax and enjoy the wonderful views. Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

Such a lovely, clean and spacious apartment. We received a hearty welcome with tea and shortbread and enjoyed the quiet scenery around the house a lot. A very good base to explore Isle of Skye. I can only say: we should have stayed longer :-)

We are glad you enjoyed staying in the apartment, and visiting the Isle of Skye. Thank you for your kind review.
