Location description from owner

The Province of Munster region

This modern residence is situated close to the water's edge near Glengarriff, one of the most beautiful areas in County Cork in the Southwest of Ireland. Only five minutes away from the village of Glengarriff , which is located at the N71 on the world famous “Ring of Beara” between the cities of Bantry and Kenmare. The area of Glengarriff is said to have the mildest climate in Ireland, benefiting from the Gulf Stream. It is within easy reach to the airports in Cork, Shannon and Kerry which offer direct transport links within Ireland as well as to Europe, the UK and the United States. The immediate vicinity is ideal for sailing, walking, fishing or playing golf. The famous Glengarriff Golf Club, which is considered the most scenic course in Ireland, and Bantry Bay Golf Club are both only five minutes away from the property. Kenmare Golf Club and the Ring of Kerry Golf Club can also be reached within a 30 minute drive.

Glengarriff

Glengarriff ("An Gleann Garbh" - the rugged glen) - lives up to its name which is derived from the rugged beauty of the mountains and wooded valleys surrounding the village. Situated within a National Nature Reserve Glengarriff woods contain some of the oldest and most extensive oak and birch groves left in Ireland. Magnificent views of the Caha Mountains and the Sugarloaf Mountain can be seen from the roads which hug the coastline or wind along the steep sided valleys. Glengarriff would not be complete without the mention of Garnish Island - Ireland's most outstanding garden island with its internationally famous collection of plants and world-renowned for its Italian Gardens. Also of interest is the Bamboo Park behind Toad Hall and the Ewe Garden, an unusual sculpture garden that will amuse both children and adults for hours. The Village features a new children's playground and Blue Pool lagoon, where the locals go to swim. Other local attractions include nearby Barley Lake and the historic Eccles Hotel. Walking trails in the area are extensive, boating, kayaking on the bay is regularly scheduled, and live music is frequently available in the evenings at local pubs, particularly during the tourist season. Glengarriff also offers shops, art galleries, pubs, restaurants & other services.
For those seeking the beach, there are many small coves scattered around the immediate area but Allihies beach on the Beara peninsula is the closest and worth the half hour drive just for the views!

“Wonderful House, Awesome Garden, a truly wonderful week”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2012

The House was wonderful. The comfy spacious bedrooms, the large lounge, the large dining area/table, the well equipped kitchen were all lovely. The House was so light and airy and with three children, the amount of space inside the house was fantastic. The garden was a star attraction. The children loved the stream, the bridge, the pond, the animals and wildlife and just the amount of space they had to run around and let off steam. The TV and digital channels were an added bonus. We had a lovely week and would recommend it to anyone.
