a first birthday, a birthday of someone a number of years older, a proposal of marriage, and a first opportunity to see snow for real.

Guests have stayed at the Lodge for lots of different reasons:

to go to a wedding, to attend the Ryder Cup and other activities at Gleneagles Hotel, to visit Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Highlands, to search for information about their ancestors and to play golf at many different local golf courses in the beautiful Perthshire countryside.

Some guests have simply come to enjoy a quiet weekend and have spent time observing the birds that visit the garden.

Thanks to all our guests for choosing to stay here and for all your positive comments about The Lodge.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Near Gleneagles Hotel, in beautiful countryside, Blackford is a small village with good road links to the rest of Scotland. As well as regular buses, Gleneagles station is only five minutes away.

Blackford has a traditional pub, the Blackford Inn, which serves meals, and a small shop, The Village Store, which stocks all the basics and take away meals including delicious curries.

Blackford is also home to Tullibardine Distillery which is undergoing a major refurbishment.

Gleneagles

Gleneagles Golf Course, is not the only local course which guests can easily enjoy. Previous golfing guests recommend Muckhart, Dunning, Muthill and Crieff amongst others within easy reach.

The nearby small town of Auchterarder has a wide range of very good shops and places to eat.

Within a half hour drive are a number of castles worth a visit. Stirling Castle and Doune Castle are favourites with guests.

Blackford has lovely views towards the mountains for the highlands,to the north and is very near the rolling Ochil Hills to the south. So there are many pleasant drives and walks and places of historic interest to visit nearby.

Fantastic location to stay at. The owner Janet was very friendly and welcoming. Travelled with my family and the children really enjoyed it. Picturesque views. Cottage was very clean and adequately furnished. Would definitely recommend the place for others.

“A lovely house with a perfect host who caters to all you need without being in your face”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2013

Having left Scotland 6 years ago where we lived for 3.5 years our kids were keen to see where they spent their early years, so a trip back up North was overdue. We wanted to find somewhere central to the places we wanted to visit (Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee and Blair Drummond) and The Lodge seemed to fit the bill, providing the location, space and at a cost that was reasonable. What we didn't realise was how welcoming and accommodating Janet would be and how well she has stocked the place (especially in the kitchen - can't think of anything that was missing when we cooked). Also the little things like 2 pints of milk, biscuits and teabags when we arrived, enough loo roll for the week, a proper size bar of soap, washing up liquid etc (you get the picture) just added to the welcome. The location was perfect with everywhere being between 30 and 45 mins away and this meant we had a fab week going down memory lane. The only reason this is not getting full marks is down to a couple of minor things - sound on the tv was a bit temperamental (but I think Janet was looking at replacing it pretty soon) and the wifi wasn't the strongest but not sure what Janet can do about that as the router sits in her home. Really minor quibbles and don't let them put you off. Janet was the perfect host - there when we needed her but not on top of us and The Lodge was really comfortable too. Thanks Janet we would definitely return if going back up to Scotland.

Thanks for the positive comments. New TV now installed.

“Beautiful traditional house in gorgeous surroundings.”
