Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Perthshire, in the centre of mainland Scotland, is known as the 'Big County' not only because of its physical area but because of the diversity of towns and countryside to be found there.

Steeped in history, the Romans, Picts and Celts and many of the main players in Scottish History all contributed to the creation of present day Perthshire. Pontius Pilot, Macbeth, William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots, John Know, Montrose, Rob Roy Macgregor, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Robert Burns - a whose who of Scottish history.

Perthshire straddles the Highlands and lowlands offering a rich variety of scenery, walking, hill climbing and fishing. Fish the wide and graceful River Tay Britain's biggest River. From it's source in serene Loch Tay with rolling mountain backdrop including the munros Ben Lawers and Schiehallion it flows east through Dunkeld and the compact city of Perth with its wealth of shops, attractions and history.

From the summit of Ben Lawers on a clear day you can see from the Atlantic to the North Sea. This beautiful area has been designated a National Nature Reserve in recognition of the unique range of arctic and alpine plants found on it's slopes.

Further south the mountains become heather clad moors and billowing hills as Perthshire descends to the fertile farmland stretching from Strathearn to Perth and up to Blairgowrie. This variety means there are walking routes to cater for all abilities.

Gleneagles

Golf is on your doorstep. Gleneagles has three golf courses; the Queens, Kings and PGA Centenary courses as well as a number of other prestigious courses within easy driving distance of your apartment. Gleneagles is set to host the 40th Ryder Cup, the greatest tournament of match play golf, in September 2014.

The Royal Burgh of Auchterarder town is laid out with a long main street giving it the nickname of the Lang Toon.

Auchterarder itself has plenty of shops including antiques, designer clothing, furniture, bakers, and butchers with an abundance of restaurants, coffee shops, a sports centre and it is ideally positioned close to the cities of Perth and Stirling.

Perth is 15 miles away with plenty of places to shop, eat, drink and admire this historic city's scenery.
