We took out the coal fire because it was too much trouble for guests, messy, and took too long to heat up.Around the cottage you are surrounded by mountains, sea lochs, and the walks are for every level of fitness and ability. There are spectacular views along the coast, up the hills, around the bays. The best Glencoe hotel is five minutes walk away for bar meals, and an indoor swimming pool. Evening entertainment in Glencoe itself. Glencoe has the most spectacular walks and the most dramatic mountains. It has everything you need for your holiday. Fancy climbing Ben Nevis? 35 minutes away. The wildlife begins outside the back door and in the bay. Otters in the bay, Sea eagles overhead. Fishing, two minutes walk. Golf five minutes' drive. Clubs can be hired there. Cycle the special track along the coast which passes just beyond our back garden. Take a boat trip to see the Whales. Take your skis to Glencoe Mountain. Climb a couple of Munroes, 3,000 foot mountains, one grows out of our garden. White water canoeing on the River Etive. Or do very little, just enjoy. Have a drive.Just amble around doing very little as most guests do. Get up late, coffee at Crafts and Things, 4 minute ferry trip to Ardamurchan then the Isle of Mull for lunch at Tobermory. Afternoon tea overlooking the famous Stalker castle. You can let the youngsters play in our little Highland Garden, totally safe. From our cottage you can drive to Inverness and back in a day, drive to the Isle of Skye and back, drive to Edinburgh, Loch Lomond and back in a day. History is deeply embedded in Glencoe.Shops and so on.Very well stocked local supermarket open 7am- 10pm ,5 minutes' drive. The Highland towns of Fort William and Oban are each 30 minutes away with, supermarkets, shops, plus ferry trips to the Isles, things to do in the wet, leisure centres, swimming pools. But take care. Glencoe is a magnetic place. People come back year after year, and never run out of new things to do.

The Glencoe region

This is the most gorgeous playground in the world. We have everything here. Look at these public research results.
THE SCOTSMAN POLL. SEVEN WONDERS OF SCOTLAND
The Scotsman newspaper asked its readers to vote for the Seven Wonders of Scotland. 50,000 voted. Glencoe came 4th, the first place named outside Edinburgh.
THE CYCLISTS POLL
1500 cyclists were asked for their opinion of the Most Scenic route in Britain. They chose the road to Glencoe from Loch Lomond and across the Moor of Rannoch.
WORLD SURVEY
A world survey chose the Buchaille Etive Mhor as 9th in the list of the World's Greatest Views. Sydney Opera House was first.
The photos taken by our guests show the story. You MUST look at our website bayviewkentallen.co.uk You can read What They Don't Tell You About The Glencoe Massacre there. (It wasn't a Massacre, and the Campbells took the blame)
Ps. The cottage is gorgeous, too. It has everything you want, all up to date. See the website bayviewkentallen.co.uk

Glencoe Village

MICRO CLIMATE IN KENTALLEN
The weather. We are fortunate in Kentallen because we have a micro climate here. The rain clouds come in from the West, and dump the water in Glencoe itself over the hill from us. In Winter, when Glencoe is blocked with snow, you will hardly find any in Kentallen. Ours is the escape route. The Gulf Stream looks after us.

WALKS, OTTERS, SEALS, CORMORANTS, EAGLES
20 of the most spectacular walks in the Scottish Highlands are around the cottage area. From strenuous hill climbing, to a quiet stroll in the forest at Glencoe lochan or a meander around Cuil Bay. Look at the photos which were taken by our guests.
You can look for the otter family in the Bay. (They are near the pier. Watch quietly). The Sea Eagles fly in from Mull, and we have proper eagles in Glencoe itself. Two seal rocks nearby, two cormorant rocks just off the road.

WHAT TO DO
Book sea trips from Oban using our computer provided in the cottage and our free Wifi,
Golf, you can use our cottage golf clubs, cycle the special track along the coast (hire a bike locally). A boat trip to see the Whales. Skiing at Glencoe Mountain and Glen Nevis. Climb the Mountain which grows out of our Highland Garden. White water canoeing on the River Etive. Watersports. Canoeing. Fishing - use the old stone pier 200 yards away. Use the rod and line we have in the cottage.
Or just take the kids to Tobermory in Mull, or to see the Harry Potter train, or to find the famous Nessie in Loch Nevis, about an hour away. Maybe just a day spent in Fort William, looking at Inverlochy Castle, bouncing in the children's park, while you play squash in the Leisure centre, go to the Swimming Pool or shop in the supermarket.

“Cozy Place Overlooking lake, Across From Road”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2016

We were four adults and 1 child for the first out of 3 nights, and were grateful to the owner for accommodating our 7 yr old niece. The 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom were located upstairs: 1 double and 2 singles (twins) - comfortable in size. Downstairs: Kitchen and living room with a small table for eating in the living room. Our niece slept in the old sofa bed/couch. We had to put the couch mattress onto the floor because the springs were very old. Overall, the cottage was comfortable for 4 people and 1 child. Location Pros: Cottage overlooks lake Pros: The sloped yard in the back was nice for the 7 year old to roam. Cons: House is adjacent to two other cottages, and located across a busy lakeside road. Can be dangerous for pulling out. This particular house is located close to a road turn (corner), so you cannot see the southbound traffic in full view when you are pulling out and having to merge with the outer lane (in the northbound direction -- back to town). There is a mirror installed across the street, but it's too small and low to be of much use. We recommend that the owner get a mirror at least three times its size. Each time, we pull out, we had a family member walk across the street to check traffic safety, run back to the car, and then pull out. Pros: Remodeled shower - works well. Pros: Kitchen is a nice size. Utensils seem limited. We did not cook meals here. Pros: Shed outside houses a washer and dryer, though they do need operating instructions, repairs, or replacement. Wet clothing took forever to dry. Pros: Clean house. The cleaning service was very friendly when we called to inquire about how to get into the house. You will need the lock box code to access the house key. Cons: Bedroom windows need screens to keep open during summer nights. Small bugs (tiny flies) came in during the night and they bite! This is a known and common issue in areas near water. Cons: No internet service or none that worked anyway. We asked the guest in the adjacent cottage to give us the password for his cottage, and it worked. We stayed close to the shared wall for service. Cons: Safety issue with lack of traffic visual, described above
