Avalon Cottage has a very special atmosphere, people return to us again and again. There is something happy and calming about the place, everyone feels it and everyone seems to be completely at home there. I have to say that 'Party Animals' wouldn't enjoy the cottage and neither would my neighbours. Nowadays we have people ringing up and saying, 'My friend/mother/boss stayed at your cottage and they've been raving about it ever since and I just have to come and stay there.' It's very flattering and very satisfying to know that we provide something which is so greatly appreciated.

Our guests have said that Avalon Cottage is not at all like a holiday let and much more like a stylish home - and so it is. We have paid attention to detail when furnishing and equipping the cottage and guests will find the standard of comfort and convenience they would expect in their own homes. As our property is 15th century we have strived to stay with a traditional and antique look but without losing the relaxing warmth of a modern home. Bedlinen is provided but please bring bath towels.
The cottage is approached at the front by a flight of several flagstones steps. From the rear the access is much easier, there is a slight incline up the lane to the rear door, guests are advised to enter and leave from the rear. Inside the cottage there is a step from the kitchen to the hall and level access from the hall to all ground floor rooms. We do not have a cloakroom or bathroom on the groundfloor. From the hall there is a flight of stairs to the first floor which comprises three bedrooms, bathroom and shower room. Parking is at the rear of the cottage about five metres from the rear door..
|Further details outdoors|
There is a fenced rear patio garden which is very safe for children, is south facing and furnished with table and chairs. The private parking adjoins the cottage at the rear and as this is a very private area for just the few houses on the lane, there are no passers by.
Sorry, we no longer accept pets and the cottage is non smoking. Unfortunately the property is probably not suitable for people with severe physical disabilities as all of the bedrooms and bathrooms are via a staircase to the first floor.
The Somerset region
Glastonbury is a different and rather lively small town. It has rich traditions, a cosmopolitan community and a taste of tomorrow. It sits on the ancient Isle of Avalon in the Somerset Levels, with a backdrop of soft, green, rolling hills.
It has been a pilgrimage place for thousands of years. In the Middle Ages a great abbey was here - it was England's 'holyest earthe'.
It now hosts the famous Glastonbury Festival, pilgrimages, music, a carnival, several conferences and other events. People visit from the world over, seeking a certain special something....
Overlooking it all is Glastonbury Tor, a fascinating holy hill.
Tradition has it that Jesus visited and Joseph of Arimathaea built a church here, King Arthur and Guinevere were buried here and it was an ancient place of the Goddess. It was home to the medieval saints Patrick, Dunstan, Benedict, David and Bridget.
Today it is a unique, atmospheric town of nearly 10,000 people with a mixture of locals, incomers and spiritual seekers. For a hundred years it has been a mecca for 'cultural creatives' and an interfaith town.
Welcome to the Isle of Avalon!
Wearyal Hill. Glastonbury Abbey. Chalice Well. A great variety of ancient and fascinating archtecture. Glastonbury is the centre of New Age philosophies in the UK and if you are interested in alternative therapies and non traditional spiritual things then this is the town for you. It is also one of the earliest seats of Christianity and the famous Glastonbury Pilgrimages bringsChristians from far afield.
Events are wide ranging and fascinating - The Goddess Conference. The Dance Festival. Glastonbury Festival. Children's World Festival. The Extravaganza Classical Music Festival and the list goes on and on

"Relaxing Peaceful Retreat In The Heart of the Town"
This is the second time staying at this lovely cottage, once again we found it to be a wonderful and peaceful retreat, yet just a few minutes walk into the town. Very helpful owner and straightforward booking process. It was just myself & my husband but would accommodate larger families very comfortably. The cottage itself is well equipped, spacious & a real home from home. A good selection of books & dvd's too which is a nice touch, especially on rainy afternoons snugglng on the large cosy sofa. Comfortable beds, everything you need in the kitchen and a nice little terrace to have breakfast on.

"Lovely Glastonbury cottage"
Everything was very nice at Avalon Cottage except for the double bed in the bedroom with en-suite, which for us was very soft. Also the pillows were very flat. Everything else was very good indeed and we were instantly very comfortable.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm staying at the cottage myself this weekend so I'll make sure there are some firmer pillows available for those that prefer them.

"A beautiful cottage in a beautiful area"
We have been to Avalon Cottage every year for the past 3 years and will continue to go there in the future. It is a lovely place to stay and feels like a home from home.

"Perfect position, with all the home comforts"
Surprisingly spacious, very well equipped and a perfect position for walking into Town, and as a base for further afield. Good to have off road parking and a sunny courtyard to relax in. One tip though, if visiting the Tor, do not park your vehicle anywhere near - use the car park opposite the Chalice Well. We left ours for 5 minutes to take some pictures, only to suffer a drive by break in & lose some personal items, leaving a sour taste of an otherwise perfect break. Still, I would highly recommend Avalon Cottage - a very high standard of sel catering accomodation

"Walking through the door is like coming home."
Excellent cottage, warm, clean and comfortable with everything you would need to cook a three course meal if you wish. Barbara has thought of everything that would make your stay like a home from home.

"The Perfect Place to Stay"
My son and I were in Glastonbury for 1 week and were delighted to book our holiday at Avalon Cottage. When we arrived and went through the property we were truly appreciative of every thoughtful item that was provided for our use and there was plenty of room for my teenage son and myself to have our own space. No detail was left out even eco soap for the dishwasher. The careful explanations by the owner prior to our arrival allowed for everything to flow smoothly for the entire week. The central-yet-peaceful-just-out-of-the-way location meant we could step out of the door and be on the High Street for practical matters and meetings in a matter of minutes and also out on the country roads for peaceful walks around the Tor and other local landmarks even more quickly.I would highly recommend this property to everyone.
